Celebrating achievement is important to us here at the ECC. When we celebrate children’s achievements we are developing their confidence and sense of belonging. We have created our new ‘wow wall’ and are looking forward to filling it with lots of achievements not just from inside the centre but also with what we are achieving at home. Please help us fill our new display by sharing your children’s achievements on our wow moment sheets that they will be bringing home.
The wow moment sheets can be children’s quotes, mark-making or even photographs. We love seeing the children’s own work and this makes their achievements more meaningful. Soon all parents and carers will have access to their child’s learning journal where their learning and development is recorded digitally and sharing photographs of home achievements will become easier. Therefore children’s own drawings and markings is an effective way of sharing achievements using our paper wow moments as we appreciate not everyone has access to a printer to produce photographs.
Remember an achievement could be anything from sleeping in own bed all night, eating vegetables at tea time or learning to ride a bike. However big or small your child’s achievement is, we would love to hear all about it. Hope everyone has a lovely weekend 🌈
Here’s a little insight of what the jellyfish group have got up to this month.
As the Communication Champion within Catrine ECC, I have started a new initiative which is ‘Rhyme of the Month’. This will be posted each month on GLOW, and you will be able to find it within the Communication tab on our GLOW page. This initiative is something that can be enjoyed at home with all the family.
Also, each month children from both bubbles will perform the ‘Rhyme of the Month’ in the outdoor space and I will post this to GLOW for all parents and carers to enjoy.

As it is a special day this Sunday called Valentine’s Day, I thought we could do fun activities. Below I have added a recipe for you all to try – some yummy chocolate strawberries. Why don’t you make them and give them to the one you love this Valentine’s Day?
Prep time: 10 minutes
cook time: 3 minutes
total time: 13 minutes
Ingredients:
Strawberries
melted chocolate of your choice
some of your favourite Valentine’s sprinkles
Lets start by washing our hands. Now we will wash our strawberries. Cut your strawberries into a heart shape, remember to ask an adult for help. Dip your heart shaped strawberries into the melted chocolate and top with the sprinkles you have chosen. Enjoy! Can’t wait to see your pictures!
Valentine’s Day makes me think about the ones I love – I love my family very much and when I tell them, it makes them feel happy inside. Can you tell me who you love and why you love them? Why don’t you send me a picture with your answers like the one I’ve done below.
julie.nohar@eastayrshire.org.uk
Curricular areas:
Health and well-being : encouraging hand washing, safety when using a sharp object. Speaking about our feelings
Maths: counting out the strawberries we have and discussing how long the treats will take to be ready.
Literacy: using descriptive language to talk about the textures of the strawberries and the chocolate.
Hi everyone I hope you are all enjoying the fun posts that we have been putting up for you.
Today we are going to focus on identifying and understanding the initial sounds of words.
Below are a few fun ideas to try.
The first challenge is to go on a scavenger hunt to find a variety of different objects and items.
Next, encourage your child to name the object and attempt to identify the initial sound e.g a doll starts with a “d”. To challenge your child you can ask them to think of another word starting with the sound and draw a picture starting with the same sound e.g draw a dog.
How many things can you find around your house starting with the first sound of your name?
Here is what I managed to find …….
Jj for Julie – jug jam jar jellyfish
Can you send me a photo of what you found using the first letter of your name?
Here is a fun video to get you moving & singing.
Curricular Areas
Literacy – explore and play with the patterns and sounds of words, discovering how they work together, listening, speech sounds, pencil control and letter formation when drawing.
Health & Wellbeing – moving your body physically during video while learning about letters.
Any pictures you have could you please send them to my email address stated below thanks.

Following Rena’s post from yesterday about bedtime routines, I am going to talk about what happens before going to bed.
Before bedtime your mum or dad will give you a time and this is when you start to get ready for bed.
Once it gets to this time you will be asked to brush your teeth and put on your pyjamas.
When in bed your mum or dad might read you a nice relaxing story.
As a nice wee treat tonight I have recorded my own wee story for you all to enjoy – so at bedtime, sit back, relax and have a wee cuddle while you listen to one of my favourite stories.
In the morning as a wee extension, can you draw me a picture of your favourite animal from the story along with some twinkling stars and count how many stars you have in your picture.
Please send in any pictures to my email address : julie.nohar@eastayrshire.org.uk
Sweet dreams everyone 🙂
Curriculum areas covered:
Communication/Literacy: listening and asking questions, pencil control and mark making.
Numeracy: discussing the time on the clock, getting the child to recognise the number.
Health and Wellbeing: hygiene brushing teeth before bed.
Hi everyone, I hope you have all enjoyed learning our Scottish poems and celebrating Robert Burns! I really enjoyed seeing all your videos of your poems and loved hearing what you all thought the meaning of the Scottish words were.
The activity for today is “ask your child what their favourite Scottish word is”. My favourite is “Scullery”. Please send their comments to my email address detailed below and I will choose what one I love the best and their might even be a small surprise. I am looking forward to seeing all your comments.

Good morning everyone, I hope you all enjoyed your Christmas break, unfortunately it is longer than intended. Until we can welcome you back into the centre we all need to do what we can to stay safe.
Today I am going to be making some delicious vegetable soup for my family and would love it if you could join me in this task.
Firstly we need to make sure we have all the ingredients we need. Let’s get our adult to help us out here. If you don’t have all the ingredients maybe your adult could take you to the shop to get these or make some soup of your choice with the ingredients you have in your house.
Let’s wash our hands and prepare our vegetables, remembering to get our adults help when cutting and peeling. Can you count how many carrots you have? what about your potatoes?
While you are waiting on your soup getting ready why don’t you ask your adult to help you find out where all your vegetables come from.
Parents/carers – you can encourage your child by searching the internet to find out what countries these ingredients come from and also how they are grown.
Remember to send me some pictures of your hard work and yummy soup
