National Poetry Day
National Poetry Day was celebrated throughout the school with pupils writing their own masterpieces, talking & listening presenting sessions and activities for enjoyment; sharing real poets work and comparing different times of genre and style.
Pr.2/1 – Learning Literacy
Primary 2/1 started off learning straight away on their return to school and numeracy and literacy were high on their list. To make learning fun and get hands and minds working Miss. Boyd tried some different activities to get the pupils learning.
Enterprising Homework – Dem Bones!
Primary 5 excelled in Term 1 with their enterprising homework as part of their Science topic of Muscles and the Skeleton. The pupils were set a challenge to work cooperatively to generate a factual presentation to demonstrate their learning. The results ranged from; video presentations, which was the first we had had for enterprising homework and a very innovative approach, to posters, fact files and models. The pupils and their family learning helpers certainly put in huge amounts of effort and the end products were clearly and accurately used to demonstrate the intended Experiences and outcomes from Curriculum for Excellence.
By investigating some body systems and potential problems which they may develop, I can make informed decisions to help me to maintain my health and wellbeing.

I have explored the structure and function of sensory organs to develop my understanding of body actions in response to outside conditions.

Dylan’s pasta model was a very unique way of showing the hollow structure of bones and his visual aid showed clearly the sections making up the rib cage, the backbone vertebrae and arm and finger sections.
Robert, Christopher and Jack made a video presentation and proved themselves to be TV presenters of the future!

Primary 7 Science and Art came together in a series of lessons looking closely at lilies and labelling the parts of flowering plant involve in reproduction. The investigations and practical activities showed learning within their Science Experiences and Outcomes of a Curriculum for Excellence.
Through carrying out practical activities and investigations, I can show how plants have benefited society.

European Languages Day
The pupils in Primary 7 got their first taste of life in the Secondary in Term1, when they were invited to join first year modern language classes for a day of European Languages. The event was certainly alot of fun as the pictures show the kids certainly had a giggle at their own efforts.
Scottish Wars of Independence
Primary 5 have started their Term 2 Social Studies learning with a hands on experience provided by History Alive. The class are about to start looking closely at The Scottish Wars of Independence and began with a walk back in time. History Alive brought artefacts and costumes for the pupils to try on and get a feel for life in ancient times. Using this type of activity way the pupils can talk knowledgeable and get an understanding of life in the past not just from the written word. These visits help the pupils to achieve learning within their Social Studies targeting the Experiences and Outcomes at Second level:
I can interpret historical evidence from a range of periods to help build a picture of Scotland’s heritage and my sense of chronology.

Bugs and Beasties – Invertebrates!
Primary 3 activities got off to a flying start and some of our parents and family members who volunteered their services as helpers joined in the active learning sessions.

Erin, Maya and Chloe sorted their Invertbrates into categories.
Mr Holmes is now a seasoned professional as a helper with Primary 3 and is due to get a Blue Peter badge as they say “Here’s one made earlier!” The boys are making 3D models of buzzy bees complete with head, thorax, abdomen, six legs and wings to show their science learning on invertebrates.
Scottish Woodlands Art
As part of the Scottish Woodlands Interdisciplinary theme the children had to create a woodland collage using tissue paper. This was particularly challenging because this was a trio masterpiece, which meant teamwork as well as creativity.
Tiana, Kirsty, Arran and Ella worked as a team to create a collage woodland.
Helia, Leah and Callum worked well together.
Ayrshire Schools Cross Country
One of our first events as part of the School Sports Calendar was the Ayrshire Schools Cross Country fun run, although judging by the faces at the finish line it wasn’t much fun!
The pupils thought they were Mo Farrah but the rain and the mud soon took its toll and they looked exhausted but very impressed with themselves at the end.
Ryan enjoys his snack. Rachel was washed out but not out!
John and Ross knackered at the end. Jordan in need of a seat!
They certainly didn’t look as if they had just run over a mile.
Apart from the soggy clothes nothing seemed to dampen the boys spirits.
