We are absolutely delighted to announce the winners in our SWEIC Christmas Writing Competition.

In the Nursery category, our winner is Nina from Muirhead PS with ‘A toy of each other‘. A close second was Evie from Kirkmichael EYC 1 with ‘the sad Christmas tree’.

The winner in the P1-3 Category is Zara, P1 Dundonald with ‘The Gift‘. I love the idea that snowflakes are a gift. The runner-up is Della-Mae Hall from St Ninians, Prestwick – ‘A Cuddle to Esme-Rose’. What better a gift than a cuddle especially as we went for so long not being able to give each other a cuddle!

In the P4-7 category we received a fantastic selection of writing but there were two that stood out. They both demonstrated great originality and it was a difficult decision but the winner is ‘A gift for Timmy’ by Daniel Ferguson, P7K, Doonfoot Primary – written from the perspective of a Christmas tree. The runner-up is ‘The Gift’ by William Hardman, P5 Barassie Primary about Santa’s transportation machine. I had no idea that was how Santa travelled!

Finally, in the S1-3 category there were a number of excellent entries – a delight to read. It is warming to see so many wonderful writers in South West Scotland! After careful consideration the winner is Callum Holt from Belmont Academy for ‘101 Men‘ and the close runner up is Francesca Seton ‘The Strength to Go‘ from St Joseph’s College, Dumfries, both exploring the theme in a unique and unusual way.

Well done to everyone who submitted an entry, and congratulations to all our winners and runners-up!

Happy Christmas.
