🌍🌱 Climate Week Scotland – Thinking Globally, Acting Locally! 🌱🌍

As part of Climate Week Scotland, our pupils explored an important topic during today’s whole-school assembly: climate change and our carbon footprints. 🌎❤️

We learned about what climate change is, how our everyday choices can affect the environment and what we can do to help look after our planet. We also discussed our carbon footprints and how making small changes to the way we live can help reduce our impact on the environment.

🍎🥕 Eating Locally and Seasonally

One of the ways we explored reducing our carbon footprints was by thinking about where our food comes from.

We discussed how some fruit and vegetables travel long distances before reaching our supermarkets, and how choosing food that is grown locally and in season can sometimes help reduce the environmental impact of what we eat. 🌱

The children were then challenged to design their own seasonal fruit and vegetable posters, showing which produce naturally grows in the UK during different months of the year.

They had to think about how the seasons affect what we can grow and how choosing more locally grown, seasonal produce could help us make environmentally responsible choices. 🍓🥦🥔

Once completed, our posters will provide a useful reminder of the different fruit and vegetables we can enjoy throughout the year, encouraging us all to think a little more carefully about our food choices.

🎨 Keep an eye out for our finished posters – we’ll be sharing them soon!

💚 Small Changes Can Make a Big Difference!

Today’s assembly was a lovely opportunity for our pupils to develop their understanding of climate change and recognise that we all have a part to play in caring for our common home.

By making thoughtful choices, reducing waste and considering the environmental impact of the food we eat, we can all take small steps towards a more sustainable future. 🌍🌱

We look forward to seeing the children’s finished posters and sharing their ideas with our wider school community! ❤️
