๐Ÿ“š World Book Day at St Josephโ€™s! ๐Ÿ“š

We had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day in school with a wonderful afternoon full of reading, creativity and fun!

In the lead-up to the day, many pupils worked hard to create posters celebrating books and reading, which helped build excitement for the event. On the day itself, pupils came to school either in fantastic book character costumes or non-uniform, and everyone made such a brilliant effort. It was lovely to see so many imaginative outfits!

The pupils had actually planned much of the afternoon themselves, helping to choose the activities they would enjoy most.

After lunch, we held a fabulous World Book Day catwalk where pupils proudly showed off their costumes. There were lots of confident poses, big smiles and plenty of applause as everyone took their turn walking the catwalk!

Next, we enjoyed some cosy buddy reading time. Pupils paired up and shared books together, discussing stories and enjoying the chance to read with a partner. Our pupils shared some lovely reflections about buddy reading:

๐Ÿ“– Kianna-Leigh said: โ€œI enjoy buddy reading because it’s so much fun!โ€
๐Ÿ“– Danna said: โ€œBuddy reading is good because you can learn new words.โ€
๐Ÿ“– Aria-Lydia said: โ€œBuddy reading is great because you can share your favourite books.โ€
๐Ÿ“– Ava W said: โ€œI like buddy reading because you can find more books that you like by being recommended them from your buddy.โ€

Afterwards, pupils returned to their classrooms to take part in a range of World Book Day activities, including:
๐Ÿ“š Reading Blether Stations
๐ŸŽจ Designing their own book covers
๐Ÿ–๏ธ World Book Day colouring sheets
๐Ÿ”ค Reading challenges such as finding a book for each letter of the alphabet

Some pupils also chose to simply relax and enjoy reading their favourite books, which was lovely to see.

It was a truly wonderful afternoon celebrating reading, imagination and sharing stories together. Well done to everyone for the fantastic effort and enthusiasm! ๐Ÿ“–โœจ
