Galloway Biosphere Workshop 🌱

Today, St. Joseph’s and Portpatrick pupils had a fantastic time taking part in interactive workshops led by the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere team! 🌿 These exciting activities helped us learn more about our local environment, the wider world, and how we can all make a difference.

We started by exploring a map of our local area, learning about the special places around us and thinking about where we’ve been and where we’d like to visit. It helped us understand how we are part of a much bigger community and gave us a sense of pride in our unique environment.

During World Ocean Week, we discovered the importance of the sea and how we can help protect it. One of our favourite games was “Dolphin and Mackerel” where we learned how dolphins use echolocation. They send out clicking sounds that bounce off fish and return to their ears so they can find their food. We acted it out and had a lot of fun pretending to be sea creatures!

We earned part of our Sundew Badge by taking on different challenges related to nature and sustainability. This helped us think about how we interact with the environment in our everyday lives.

Another important part of the day was thinking about our carbon footprint. We reflected on the things we did this morning like how we travelled to school or what we ate and then we drew footprints on a big poster to show our impact on the planet. It helped us think about changes we can make to help protect our world.
