Our Weekly News – 1st November 2019

Primary 5/6

This week, we have been studying the history of Hallowe’en and why people dress up and carve pumpkins.

As part of our topic work about Forestry, we have been learning about the different parts of a tree and what their purpose is. We also identified items in our school environment that are made from wood. We have learnt a lot about the life cycle of a tree and we would be really happy to tell you all about it at home!

Ralph – “Forestry is a really important subject at this place in time.”

Elle – “I really enjoyed learning about the history of Hallowe’en.”

Eva – “I have enjoyed learning about the history of the Irish Celts.”

Primary 6

This week we have started our new topic, ‘The Victorians’. We discussed what we already know and what we’d like to know. We have also started our new class novel called ‘Street Child’.

We studied digital safety and how to stay safe online. We created ‘Digital Footprints’ which helped us see what trail we leave when we are online. What does your digital footprint say about you? As part of our Internet Safety learning, we have started playing Google’s ‘Interlands’ game which we use on Glow.

We have started our very own Twitter page which you can find by downloading the Twitter app and searching for ‘Primary 6 and Mr McClune’.

Jodie – “We created our own digital footprints to show that we leave a trail online. We were learning how to stay safe online.”

Anelle – “I enjoyed the Hallowe’en activities in class and really liked the Hallowe’en dancing.”

Murray – “I really liked creating monsters with my group and being creative.”

Reminders for next week  –  PE kit for Monday and Tuesday

Primary 7

We have started our class topic, ‘Titanic’.

We had a visit from Fire Scotland and Police Scotland who were telling us all about firework safety.

In language, we were writing adverts to encourage monsters to buy a haunted house. We used persuasive language skills to do this. We also created haunted house pictures with paint and collage to go with our adverts.

Our class Twitter page is up and running and you can find this by downloading the Twitter app and searching for ‘Primary 7 and Miss G’.

Morgan – “I’m looking forward to finding out about the Titanic.”

Angus – “I enjoyed painting the moonlight in my haunted house picture.”

Nico – “I had to use adjectives and exaggeration to persuade a monster to buy my haunted house.”
