On Monday 6th November, Mrs Farquhar took a group of S3/4 pupils to “Food For Thought” at Easterbrooke Hall in Dumfries. Funding from Education Scotland provided a chance to experience working in a real-life restaurant, and training in carrying out front-of-house duties.
Events Manager Fiona Grand gave the pupils a tour of Easterbrooke and Neuros Restaurant as well as the spa and swimming pool. Pupils were divided into three groups. One group had to make “mocktails” in their own bar, another group went to the kitchen to work with the chef and make a variety of foods. The final group had to lay and decorate the tables. Each group had the chance to experience each activity. One of the groups made pizza with the chef, which we ate for lunch along with sweet potato fries. It was a great experience for the pupils to learn about all the different jobs in the food and drinks industry. One pupil said, “I didn’t realise there was a restaurant inside Easterbrooke.” Another said, “The food was great, especially the chocolate mousse.”
