CatStrand cultural centre in New Galloway are coming in every second Thursday after school to work with a group of young people on their creative writing skills.
Monday lunchtimes are an opportunity for young people (and staff) to learn a new language or practise one they’re already learning. Japanese seems to be the current favourite, perhaps because they are studying Japan in Geography lessons.
The S2s have been learning French phrases for buying food at the market. They enjoyed acting out a scene, using polite forms of address, exchanging fake Euros and fake fruit and vegetables.

Le Café – une pièce de théâtre
Nous sommes allés voir une pièce de théâtre au lycée de Castle Douglas, qui s’appelle “Le Café”. Il y avait seulement deux acteurs, qui jouaient beaucoup de rôles différents. C’était quelque chose de différent… c’était drôle, très amusant et utile pour le français.

Pupils followed a recipe in Spanish and cooked a delicious “tortilla española”.
