The Perfect Pigsty for a Piglet! 🐷 🐖 🐽

P4-7 have been busy using their design skills to create the perfect pigsty for our book study character Wilbur. Each sty is completely unique with a range of really interesting design features.

“It is not a pigsty is it Wilbur’s playhouse. I like it because it has climbing parts to help him climb over the cinnamon and he can smell the trees because they are made from cinnamon too, ” said Conor.

“I like my pigsty because Wilbur has his friend like the cow to play with. Then he has places to play in and things like the cinnamon stick to smell. Also he has places to drink, sleep and eat,” said Freya.

“I think my pigsty is really fun for Wilbur because it has lots of stones and things for him to hide in and play with,” said Blake.

“I think my pigsty is really  nice because it has lots of  sections for him to eat, drink, play and talk to Charlotte. He can look at the statue of him and there is a place for him to sleep, ” said Sinead.

“I think my pigsty is good because he has a lot of places to go and he has got places to eat, hide, sleep and drink, ” said Cameron.

If you were a sweet and humble piglet which sty would you choose to spend the night in?

If you look closely you might even spot Charlotte! 🕷

First Minister’s Reading Challenge P3-7

At Collin we believe that reading has the power to change lives and that developing a love of reading in childhood can have a huge impact on educational attainment and well-being.

The First Minister’s Reading Challenge has been running for a few years now and encourages children and young people develop a love of reading. This year Collin Primary has decided to join in with the experience, for all of the benefits – and the fun – that come with reading for pleasure.

What should pupils read?

Anything! The Reading Challenge puts a focus on reading for pleasure and children will be more excited about reading if they’re reading something that motivates and interests them. So grab an old favourite from your book collection at home, visit your local library, go for a browse around a charity shop for pre-loved books, check out free reading resources online and of course enjoy the wide selection of books available from our school library.

Each child will be issued with a reading passport where they can record which books they have read as well as noting their thoughts on the book and awarding each book with a star rating.

Donations welcome

If you have any pre-loved books that you are happy to part way with, have outgrown or perhaps you have some books you never really got into but think someone else may enjoy- please bring them into school and we can add them to our library. Covid regulations will be followed to ensure safe handling.

Good luck to all participants. Do not forget it is not a race, read at your own pace and really enjoy the experience. Remember that reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body…

Where will your reading journey take you?

-Mrs Mullen
