P5 Enterprise Excellence

The children of Primary 5 have absolutely blown our socks off with their creative, enterprising, team working skills.

I have been up till the wee hours counting, and recounting the money that the children have made from the Virgin money “Make a £5 Grow” Challenge.

The children are pictured with Christmas cards that they have made for the children staying in Ward 15 over Christmas.

EVERY SINGLE CHILD SUCCEEDED IN THE CHALLENGE!

As part of our data handling maths focus we collated our profits, made an enormous bar chart and analysed our results.

“The most popular profit made was between £11 and £20, as 8 people succeeded in making that.” Alister noticed

“5 people have made more than £100 profit Mrs Kerr!!” Ruby declared

“There is money in every single box Mrs Kerr, EVERYONE has grown their £5!!”  announced Argyle.

So, without further ado, the final results are in ……….

The P5 have raised in total ….drum roll please……£1,094.23!!!!!!!!

WHAT A FANTASTIC ACHIEVEMENT!!!

However, what I am MOST impressed by, is the compassion these children have shown, as they asked if they could donate some of their profits to charity, to help those less fortunate than themselves.  The children then researched and voted on the charities they wanted to donate money to.

They have decided that 35% of their profits will go to the following charities :

The Children’s ward at DGRI

SCIAF Real Gifts

MOOL

We will be donating £128 to each charity in the New Year. Watch this space for more photographs.

The remaining £710.23 will go towards a P5 class trip, which will occur next year.

Big thanks are due to Mrs Graham, Mrs Woods, and Miss Griffin for all their help in assisting me in the running of this project, and to the children and their family members who helped them achieve these fantastic results!

Have a good Christmas!

Mrs Kerr

Christmas Craft Fayre

P2, P3, P4 have been busy making lots of nice treats, glittery decorations and fun Christmas Gifts for their Craft fayre this afternoon. All the children helped sell all the wonderful things they had made to lots and lots of Mums, Dads, Grannies and Grandpas. Our Christmas Shoppers even had time to enjoy a wee cuppa and mince pie after their busy afternoon shopping. Well Done Boys and Girls and Thank You to all who came to buy.

St Andrew’s Day Fun!

Today has been a day of celebrations in our school for St Andrew’s Day.  This is a very important day for Scotland but also for our school as St Andrew is our Patron Saint.

We were very lucky to have former pupil Lauren come to pipe us in to school this morning.  We then started the day with a short service celebrating the life of St Andrew with Father Gerald.

Next it was time to split in to groups to take part in a variety of activities.  We could choose from:

Baking, Football, Woodlands, K’nex, Clay Models, Disco, Fun Science, Arts & Crafts, Games Room and Team Games.

Here are some of our thoughts on the day:

“It was such great fun!” Georgia        I loved Fun Science.” Neve         “Football was great!” Brigita

“This is the best day at school!” Maeve

P5 Enterprise Afternoon

WOW, WOW,WOW!!! So impressed with the pleasant, polite shopkeepers in P5, who knew all about their products, and served their customers with a smile!

Thank you also to the P6 and P7 classes for their generosity, one customer’s feedback was “I give the Enterprise Afternoon 29 stars, one for every child in the class!”

Many thanks again for your support, practical real life activities like this really help to underline the learning we have been doing in class about money, how to give correct change, the value of money and profit and loss…plus the fact that the children had fun!

Thank you to our resident paparazzi Thomas and C-Jay, for taking such great photos 🙂

P2 Celebration of Learning

P2 invited people from home to come in to our classroom to see how we learn in P2. We had lots of things to tell them about our learning and then we let them do some of the activities we do. Some of the things we were showing them were:

draw a picture on 2simple, use magnetic letters to write tricky words, sort the recycling items into the correct bins, make a 2D shape picture, make a mask of a wild animal from the book Mr Tiger Goes Wild and some maths games.

The children had a super time and it was good to see them excited about their work and learning.

P1 World of Work Trip to Tesco

P1 had a fantastic morning visiting all the different departments in Tesco Peel Centre Superstore last week.

We visited the bakery first to see how the bread was made.

The baker showed us the big mixing machine used to make the dough. We even got to try some of the different breads he makes, and the doughnuts!

Some of us weren’t too keen on the chilli bread, but we all agreed we liked the doughnuts!

Next we met the fishmonger who showed us all the different fish and told us about how to keep them fresh.

After that we visited the fruit and vegetable aisle. We listened carefully to hear where all the fruit and veg was grown and how far it had travelled to reach the shop.

We looked in the big chiller that keeps the food fresh.

Finally we all had a ‘go’ on the checkout, to find out how what that job would be like.

It was great fun and we want to say a huge THANK YOU to Robyn at Tesco for showing us about.
