Children in P1 visited Dumfries Museum today to learn about ‘evidence’. We completed museum trails in small groups and learned that we can look at objects from the past to learn about what life was like long ago.

P1 World of Work Trip to Tesco
P1 had a fantastic morning visiting all the different departments in Tesco Peel Centre Superstore last week.
We visited the bakery first to see how the bread was made.
The baker showed us the big mixing machine used to make the dough. We even got to try some of the different breads he makes, and the doughnuts!
Some of us weren’t too keen on the chilli bread, but we all agreed we liked the doughnuts!
Next we met the fishmonger who showed us all the different fish and told us about how to keep them fresh.
After that we visited the fruit and vegetable aisle. We listened carefully to hear where all the fruit and veg was grown and how far it had travelled to reach the shop.
We looked in the big chiller that keeps the food fresh.
Finally we all had a ‘go’ on the checkout, to find out how what that job would be like.
It was great fun and we want to say a huge THANK YOU to Robyn at Tesco for showing us about.
Chocolate Crispy Cakes by P1
Today we made chocolate crispy cakes to inspire us in writing a class poem.
First we broke up the chocolate bars and melted the chocolate while talking about what we could smell. Then we poured in rice crispies.
After that we mixed the crispy cakes, listening to what noises we could hear.
Next we took turns filling our bun cases and sharing our ideas of what the filled cases looked like.
Finally we munched and crunched our cakes, telling each other what we thought they tasted like.
Last of all we suggested describing words for a class poem. We hope you like it.
Chocolate Crispy Cakes by P1
I can see shiny, bubbly melted chocolate.
I can hear crunching noises and children squealing.
I can smell sugary, sweet chocolate.
I can feel warm, gooey, bumpy sandcastles.
I can taste a sweet, silky, creamy crispy cake.
Tremendous Transition…Nursery Visit to P1
This Tuesday P1 were delighted to welcome the children from St Andrew’s Nursery Brooke Street for a visit as part of the school’s transition programme.
After singing some Christmas songs together the primary one children helped the nursery children make ‘melted snowman’ biscuits and pine cone Christmas tree table decorations.
It was great fun and we’re looking forward to seeing the nursery children again next year for more fun times.
P1 and Nursery Transition Trip
The Autumn sun was shining on Tuesday afternoon when Primary 1 accompanied the Nursery children on a Halloween Leaf Hunt, as part of our Transition programme.
Our mission was to find the right kind of leaves to make Halloween Ghosts with. Ethan and Ryan think they’ve found a good place to begin the hunt!
Mrs Gilligan, Piotr, Isaac, Joseph, Natan, Tanisha and Izzy think they may have found just enough to fill a haunted house.
Mrs Parker leads the charge to the play park for a well earned reward after a successful hunt.
Jamie (P1) takes time out to swing with his friend Callum (nursery).
Monica, Orla and Amelia from P1 have a rest while Maeve (nursery) takes them for a spin.
Franci knows when it’s ‘mission accomplished’.
Amelia (P1) and Neve (nursery) share time together in the sunshine.
Tanisha (P1) lends her friend Cara a hand on the see saw.
Maggie and Cara from nursery show their new friends, Zara and Niamh, just how many kids you can fit in a spinning top!!
And finally the results of a busy afternoon…
…watch out, there’s a ghost about!!
