D- Day 6.6.1944

In June 1944, Great Britain, Canada and America joined forces and proceeded to try and push the German forces back. This is known as D-Day. it was the biggest invasion from the land, sea and air that had ever been attempted. D-Day is a secret name for the British to use when they were planing a big attack. D-Day means Day Day.  All of the soldiers that were present on the day of the attack go back to where it all commenced.  Over 3000 soldiers died in Britain alone.

P7 LEAVERS HOODIES :) :)

yesterday, members of the parent council bought everyone their P7 leavers hoodies. My one was ordered oversized so it would last longer. Thank you to the parent council for buying us these hoodies. They were super expensive, and they took a little longer to arrive than expected, but when we did get them, they were amazing. 😀 😀 😀 😀

SCIENCE: Separation- learn how to separate sand, rocks, salt and rice

HOW TO SEPARATE NATURAL MATERIALS                                                                           Learn how to separate different materials using these simple instructions.

YOU WILL NEED;

  1. Sand
  2. Pipette
  3. Salt
  4. Stones
  5. Containers (for holding the items as well as separating them)
  6. Rice
  7. Funnel
  8. Beakers
  9. Sieve
  10. Water

                                                                                   METHOD

  • Firstly, grab a bowl.
  • Secondly, pour the sand, salt, rice and stones into the bowl and mix them together thoroughly, adding  more of the ingredients if needed.
  • Once all of your ingredients are thoroughly mixed, fill a cup with the mixture. This will be the amount that you separate.
  • Then, take the stones out of the cup and place it into a clean, dry container.
  •  Now, pour your remaining mixture into the sieve and shake well above another container until all of the sand has fallen out of the sieve.
  • Rinse the rice under a cold tap (whilst it is still in the sieve) until any bits of dirt remaining from the sand has been washed out.
  • After you have rinsed the rice, our it into  one of your other containers.
  • Now, run fill a container with warm water. Pour the sand into the water. The salt will have dissolved into the water, leaving the sand to sink into the bottom.
  • Use the pipette to carefully remove the water into a separate container , leaving the sand in the bottom of the first container. Repeat these steps until the water is clear. (the sand will  stain the water as well as float around, so you have to make sure the water is clear otherwise the next step will not work. )
  • Penultimately,  boil the salt water until all of the water has evaporated. Scrape the salt off of the inside of the pan and pour it into the container.
  • Finally, empty the sand into the last container.

There! You have separated all of the ingredients!

Re Decorating The School Bathroom!!!

Hi everyone! You’ll never guess what! Miss Dale has let me re decorate the girl’s school bathroom!!! Before we renovated it, the bathroom was pink and purple (chosen by the previous girls 15 years ago). I got given a budget, and I started to pick the colours. After three weeks of painting, measuring, shopping and more painting, the bathroom was complete.  I put quotes on the back of the door and bought a bigger mirror. We left for the holidays and when we came back, I went shopping for the final touches. Here are some pictures.

These are the pictures of the finished results!! I hope you like them 🙂 😀 🙂 😀 !!!

REVEREND JANICE COMES TO HOLYWOOD

Today the whole school had an assembly with reverend Janice about Easter. she taught us about how Jesus died on the cross. We sung songs about Jesus and Easter. one of the songs was about rolling eggs down hills. The other song was about Jesus being dead but alive in everyone. She got people go come up to the front and open Easter eggs. One was empty the next had shards of chocolate the other had sweets inside. This was to represent all of our mistakes.

NEWSROUND STORY

Our story is about an aquanaut who will be living underwater for 100 days.

His name is Joseph Dittari and he will be living underwater for 100 days as part of an experiment. He is an aquanaut and a medical researcher. He will live in an underwater motor home at an estimated 9m underwater. Whilst he is underwater, he will be closely monitored by medical professors to see if he is OK and to see how his body reacts to living underwater. If he succeeds at his mission, then he will set a new world record, because the longest a human has been underwater for is 78 days. He will carry out breathtaking medical research and he will be visited by 40 young divers. He hopes that he will inspire the next generation.

Our Views On This Story.

We think that it is an inspiring story. Payton says that she doesn’t know who doesn’t want to live underwater and become a fish. She also wants to become a fish. Lottie thinks it is a cool idea. I think that it is a good idea and that it could be successful in others doing it if this man can do it.

That is all from us and we look forward to sharing another blog with you next week.

OUR DIGITAL NARATIVE

Our digital narrative is about an alien. He is basically trying to get a cactus onto his ship. First, we watched the small film, then we mapped the story, and now we are writing it down as a story story instead of just a video with music. I think the alien looks like Shrek with a spacesuit on. If that helps you picture the alien.

February 21st 2023 P6/7 WW2 Ration Challenge

today, P6/7 will be competing to win the WW2 Ration Challenge. My group is Lottie, Payton, me and Abigail. Our dish was a lentil soup. Here’s how we made it.

  1. Firstly, we diced the onions.
  2. Then we peeled and diced the carrots and potatoes.
  3. After we diced the potatoes and carrots, we then put half a lump of butter in the pan and let it melt.
  4. Next, we slowly cooked the onions until they were starting to caramelise.
  5. whilst the onion was cooking, we diced the bacon.
  6. next, we added the bacon, carrots and potatoes.
  7. after about five minutes, we added most of the bag of lentils.
  8. next we added the hot water.
  9. let it sit for about twenty minutes, stirring every three to four minutes.
  10. once it has started to thicken, make sure the bacon, carrots and potatoes are well cooked.
  11. serve with buttered bread.

Holywood at Learning

Welcome back to Holywood Learning. This week we have been creating model planes. Our two options of planes are the German Messerschmitt and the  British Spitfire. I am doing the Spitfire partially because I like the plane and the name and also partially because not many people were creating the planes.

We are also doing a ration challenge. We are in groups of four and we have to create a wartime recipe. There are a few rules.

  1. We can only use ingredients that were around in Britain at the time of the war.
  2.  We have an hour to cook our meal.
  3. The meal has to feed a family of four.
  4. We can bring in ONE extra ingredient from home PER GROUP.
