RSPCA Charity

Hi everybody! It’s Cleo. Today I will be telling you a bit about RSPCA charity. RSPCA is a charity that helps animals that are hurt. RSPCA stands for “Royal Society for the Prevention  of Cruelty to Animals.” They started in 1824. They have saved 115,000 animals! You can donate from £10-£50 to help an animal. They save cats, dogs, horses and rabbits. Someone said “Top people and very caring!” while somebody else said “DO NOT USE THE RSPCA” but people have mixed emotions. By Cleo

Comic Strip

Hello everybody! It’s Cleo. Today an author came in and read a book to us. The book was called “Strange Visitor”. It was about a lady who wished she had company. One of the main characters are the cat. Even though the cat isn’t mentioned in the book it’s one of the main characters. There’s a monster in the book that tries to get the lady at the end but the lady turns him into cat food. After we listened to the book we had to make our own little comic strip. Mine was about a big cat trying to catch a spider for it’s meal but the spider bangs him on the head with a pan and he falls to the ground. The spider then calls his brother over and they eat roast cat.  That’s all for today. I hope you all enjoy your day! By Cleo.

Clan Meet

Hello everybody. Today I will be talking about our clan meet and what we had to make to prepare for the clan meet. Before the clan meet we had to make head dresses, a dance/roleplay and a flag. The only one my clan didn’t get finished were the head dresses because they didn’t fit. For our roleplay we agreed on making a roleplay about our clan hunting 3 buffalo. 4 of us were the people and the other 3 were the buffalo’s. After that we finished our flag we were working on. Our flag was our clan symbol which was a bird coloured in red resembling a red kite. We wrote our clan name in ruin then outlined it. We had to use natural material to colour it and draw it. We used blackberries for the bird and we used leaves for the rest. When we finished the flag we decided to tie the flag to a long stick. After making everything we had to decide who was our fastest runner and our best archer. Bailey was the fastest runner and Orianna was the best archer in our clan. Once we were ready it was time for the clan meet. We walked over the hill then down the hill then sat down. We started with the fastest runners. The ran round the hill, through the tunnel and back to the rocks and Bailey won. After that we did our roleplay. I was a bit nervous but excited. I enjoyed all of the roleplays and dances because most were quite funny. When all the roleplays and dances were finished it was time to see the best archers.

My Review On The House With The Chicken Legs

Hi guys. It’s Cleo and today I will be doing my review of The House With The Chicken Legs.

The author is Sophie Anderson.

The main characters were Baba Yaga and Marinka. At the start Marinka tells us about her house and how it has chicken legs and she builds a bone fence to let ghosts or spirits in her house. Baba Yaga guides spirits through the gate to let them go to the stars.

Marinka then meets somebody called Benjiman. He has found a lamb and he asks Marinka to keep his lamb for 1 or 2 nights while he asks his Dad if he can keep the lamb. However the house moves on to live somewhere else so the lamb stays with Marinka for a while. She calls the lamb Benji because she misses Benjiman. Half way through the book Marinka meets a ghost. She talks to her for a while then keeps her in her bedroom. This is because Marinka doesn’t have any other friends except Baba Yaga so she is lonely. She keeps her for a while until she finds out she is also a ghost who didn’t go through the gate. The book then follows how Marinka deals with this discovery.

I enjoyed it because it was very interesting and it seemed like a wild adventure for Marinka. It was interesting to read her realisation of being a ghost and how she coped with it.  I also liked the spooky edge to the book discussing the afterlife.

Another reason I enjoyed it is because it seems to be based off a myth and I love myths. The myth is about a lady called Baba Yaga. She has a house with chicken legs and she goes around looking for children.  If she finds good children she MIGHT let them go, but she will most likely eat naughty children! I do love myths because they inspire my imagination so I love this book a lot.

That’s all for now. I hope you all have a great day! By Cleo

Some work and a tomato plant

Hi!
Cleo here.

I looked up tricky words in the dictionary. I knew a couple from learning about Marianne North. Here are my sentences.
The Waratah flower is native to Australia.
The owner of the mansion hired someone knowledgeable in horticulture to take care of their garden.
Photosynthesis means green plants make their food with sunlight.
In the rainforest most plant and animal life is not found on the forest floor, but in the leafy covering known as the canopy.
Pitcher plants can survive in a wide range of habitats, from sandy areas to the forest, because they get their nutrition from insects.
Marianne North would of worn bloomers for underwear.
Saucer plants are my favourite type of succulent plant.

Today we re-potted my tomato plant that I brought home from school. When I brought it home it was only a seed so I thought I would share a picture as it has grown so much and our topic this week involves plant growth. To get it to grow this big I have had to water it every day, allow it plenty of sunlight and keep it warm.

I’m now off to do my five a day and some sumdog. I hope you are all doing well and having fun. Bye for now!

My journey to Australia 1980

I am writing this with a candle in my room as it is night. It isn’t the best room, but I can cope with this. I am certainly used to much harsher conditions, sleeping in tents. At least the temperature is warm. In Japan ,a small time ago, I fell ill with Rheumatic Fever. This means I can no longer cope with colder climates. This did upset me, but I recovered and I’m keen to keep going.

I started my journey in Marseilles in France. We came via Sarawak, where I discovered the carnivorous pitcher plant. I have been travelling for months as Australia is so far from France and I made the stop along the way. I have been to many different places across the world so I know what it feels like to travel on a steam ship. I don’t mind the long journey on a steam ship. I can use the time to paint and reflect.

I am always excited when going on adventures to discover new plants or animals I have never seen or heard of. As usual I am travelling alone despite people finding it strange for a woman to be doing this. I just find my own company to be the best. I bring very few spare items of clothing with me, but always pack plenty of painting supplies and my easel.

I’m heading to Australia because my friend Charles Darwin said my work is excellent, but to complete it I should go to Australia as there are many things to be discovered. I must rest now and take this journey to gather my energy for exploring when I arrive.

In Australia 1980

I’m coming to the end of my trip in Australia. I started out in Brisbane visiting the Botanical garden. However, I much prefer the countryside to a big city, so I headed inland. I spent over an hour laying under a eucalyptus tree with my handkerchief on a tuft of grass for a pillow studying this species of tree I had never seen before. I visited the Blue Mountains where I saw the beautiful Waratah plant in the wild for the first time. The red of its petals were so vivid. The shape reminds me of a raspberry. I also got to see the native bear of Australia. It’s coat was grey, ears rounded with a flat black nose. My eye was constantly drawn to plants not native to Australia in people’s gardens struggling in the heat and dry soil. As a lover of plants this slightly disturbed me. Although I am also not native so also find it hot wearing a full dress, but this is what is expected of me.

I painted a picture of the native bear alongside the Australian pears with my usual medium of oil paints. I often have to pack away my paintings before they are even dry as there is so little time and a lot to see and do. Thankfully this painting turned out exactly as I wanted.

I am returning to England now but looking forward to sharing my findings and my next adventure.

The Trip To The Loch Ness

Hello guys. Today I’m going to be showing you my story I’ve written so far. It is based on mythical creatures. Right now this is about the Loch Ness Monster.

One day me and my family decided to go to Loch Ness to go on an adventure. I did hear about a monster in the loch so I decided to try get a look at it at night time.

There was a hotel that we stayed in for a week! It was epic! As we were heading inside of the hotel I looked into the water and saw a big splash. I thought I was going crazy so I just ran inside and watched something to take my mind off it, but then I remembered what they said about the monster. They all called it the Loch Ness Monster or Nessie.

At night when it was foggy and damp because of the rain I sneaked outside. I really wanted to spot it. I went closer… and closer… and closer… until… SPLASH! I  slipped and fell into the water. I couldn’t believe it. This was the end of me until something brought me up to the surface. It didn’t look like a fish or an eel or a human. It looked like a massive snake with flippers. When I got to the shore I looked behind me to find it staring at me. I found it breathtaking to see the Loch Ness Monster, but I was scared because I didn’t know what it eats. She turned her head looking towards her back wanting to give me a ride.  I got on and we dived in and out of the water having fun and we did it every night until it  came to the last night until I had to leave.

We spent our last time together until Nessie stopped. I was confused for why she stopped until I saw a beautiful white horse on the other side of the shore. Nessie brought me back to the hotel backing away from the horse. When the sun rose in the baby blue sky I ran inside to tell my family about Nessie and the white horse. Only my brother believed me but that’s okay. We packed up and headed to the car, but the white horse caught my eye again. “Come on Cleo get in the car!” My Dad shouted. I got in the car but couldn’t stop thinking about the white horse…

To be continued….

Bye for now. Cleo.
