Our Space topic.

This term our new topic is about Space.

We learnt  about the order of the planets and made sculptures out of the planets using  play dough. We found out that Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system and that if you put all the other seven planets together they would still be smaller than Jupiter. The sun could fit one billion Earth’s in it with more room to spare for Jupiter that’s how big the sun is. Pluto was the smallest planet until Pluto became a dwarf planet and now Mercury is the smallest planet in the solar system. The sun is actually a star and the stars you see in the sky are other sun’s are bigger but they look smaller because they are further away from us and our solar system.

. This is us making craters out of flour and coco powder and we also added some sand into ours. We spread it about the box and dropped a tennis ball, shuttle cock, basket ball and a soft ball. We also piled up the mixture into like a mountain and then dropped the tennis ball on top of the mountain.  Below you can see some of us  making the sculptures of the planets using play dough. We had a  piece of paper and measured the planets how far away they are from the sun in our solar system.

all about space

We made craters with balls and stones and dropped them in to flour, cocoa powder and sand.  Then we wrote about space and we put inflatable planets in there right spots.

FUN FACT

Neptune is the furthest planet from the sun.

Our Space topic

We have made Playdo planets. We had blow up planets and we made a rhyme, Millers Very Evil Monkey Jumps Stupidly Up Neptune. And we listen to songs. Mercury Venus Earth Mars Jupiter Saturn Uranus Neptune (Pluto) We made craters  with sand and flour and coco powder in the rain and we are doing a blog right now. By Findlay and Ruby

Our solar system topic by Tas and Na

Mercury  is the closest planet to the sun but it is not the hottest . It has lots of craters and is mostly made of iron.

Venus is a rocky planet like all of the first four planets so Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. It is the hottest planet in the solar system.

Earth is the only planet in the solar system that has life that we know of. It is mainly covered with water.

Mars  has the biggest mountain that we know of in the universe and it is called Olympus Mons. It has a red colour and is sometimes  known as the red planet.

Jupiter is the biggest planet in our solar system and it is the first gas giant in order.  It has a big red spot which is a storm that is twice the size of Earth!

Saturn has rings that are made of ice, rock and dust. It is made from hydrogen and helium.

Uranus is made from methane and that’s why it smells like rotten eggs! It has a ring around it and it spins on it’s side.

Neptune has 13 moons and is the windiest planet in the solar system. It is really cold, so cold that it even has ice volcanoes on it!

We did some activities like making the planets out of play doh and making craters in flour and coco powder.

mercury is the closest planet to the sun but it is not the hottest.

Venus is the the second closest planet to the sun and it it also the hottest planet.

earth is the only planet in the universe that is known to have life.

mars is the 2nd smallest planet the largest volcano in the solar system is on mars its called Olympus Mons.

Jupiter has 80 moons it is 4.603 billion years old and it is the biggest and oldest planet in the solar system.

Saturn is the only planet that has visible rings with a normal telescope its the second biggest planet in the solar system

Uranus is made of mainly  hydrogen  some helium and a little bit of methane.

Neptune is the windiest planet in the solar system and it has 14 moons and its the last planet in the solar system.

Creating Craters

On Tuesday we made craters here’s how we did it,

  • Get 3 or 2 small balls and get 1 big ball if you want get a big rock or 2.
  • Get a 50 cm plastic box.
  • Flour, Coco powder and if you want you can get some sand.
  • And pour the flour and the coco powder into the plastic box.
  • Then you want to flatten it down or take the next step and gather it up into a mountain shape.
  • After that you can throw the ball or rock onto it  and see how big the crater is.

Miller found it really really exciting!

Tanith found it fun.
