Digital Dundee Learning Fortnight Day One

Digital Dundee Learning Fortnight (8th – 19th May 2017) got underway with two events at Abertay University. This morning 200 primary pupils from Blackness PS, Craigiebarns PS, Dens Road PS, Fintry PS and Rosebank Primary came along to a Presentation and Question session which allowed them to see a wide range of ways in which computing science can be applied. The topics covered during the 20 Years of Gaming event ranged from Cyber Resilience to the Internet of Things, Rockets and Space Balloons to the difference between plays and games. The pupils all had the opportunity to go around the Abertay Graduate Degree Show and have hands on sessions on a huge range of projects from this years students.

 

 

This evening several educators from across the authority and beyond attended a Digital Dundee Education Network Event. This was a super way to see and hear how the new updated Technologies Curriculum can to progress into career pathways at Universities such as Abertay. It was fascinating to hear about all the fantastic courses on offer and how students and lecturers would be willing to support schools (some have already been out to Dundee schools). It was also a great way for our practitioners to make useful links for skills for learning, life and work events and learning opportunities as we are all looking to develop as fluid transitions as possible between stages and educational establishments. Attendees were also given a tour of the Degree Show to reinforce the range of applications where computing science and A huge thank you to everyone who came along and to Abertay University for allowing our pupils and staff this opportunity.
