Three our of our Dundee Secondary schools are getting a visit from the BT Digital Scotland Fibre Showcase this week as part of our Digital Dundee Learning Fortnight and National Digital Learning Week 2017.
St John’s High School, Grove Academy and Morgan Academy are all hosting the bus for a day during which time pupils in Broad General Education will have the opportunity to visit the bus whilst hearing and seeing how fibre optic networks work, what the role of the BT Open reach engineers is and how Computing Science plays a part in this. They also get to find out about what is required to upgrade the existing networks, landlines and internet connections which they may have in their home and what the content of the BT boxes are in the streets around where they stay.
These sessions are a valuable way in which our learners are developing skills for learning and work whilst getting to see and learn about real life applications of their computing science skills and understanding of networks. Many thanks to the Scotland Superfast Team at BT, the class teachers in secondary schools who are supporting their pupils with this visit and Alan Dobson, DCC City Development and Smart Cities Projects.
