Celebrating learning in technologies

ICT at St Ninian’s PS

St Ninian’s Primary School have been very busy sharing their learning across the curriculum using Glow Blogs. Each class has their own blog which they use to share learning experiences with parents and the wider community. For Digital Dundee Learning fortnight and National Digital Learning Week we are highlighting their use of Glow Blogs and technologies.

This blog post highlights just some of their posts about their use of the Technologies curriculum. Click the title of each post to see their full blog.

Watch this Space! Lights, Camera, Action!!

To help next year’s new Primary 1’s get to know our school and meet some of the children and grown-ups before they come in the summer, we are going to be working with the other classes to record a ‘Welcome to our St Ninian’s Family’ mini movie using our i pads.  Before we start recording we are going to share some of the things we were worried or unsure about before we came to school. We are also going to tell everyone what we love about our school.  Miss Thompson will then put it all together with the help of some older children. We can’t wait to see how it turns out!

ICT learning

Today in ICT we practised more class learning through games. We are getting very good at logging on quickly and saving games as favourites so we can play them again and again.

Here are some of the games if you would like to play them at home:

More ICT fun

When we were in the ICT suite, we enjoyed playing these games to reinforce class learning, and saved them as favourites so we could find them easily again.

Here are the addresses, so you can play them at home if you would like to:

Coding!

Today, we began to use the programme Scratch. This is a tool that allows us to control the movements of different characters or sprites. Coding means that we can tell the character what to do by creating a computer script. The script is like a jigsaw puzzle that we have to put together. The jigsaw puzzle or script needs to fit together in order for it to work.

We had amazing fun creating and adding sprites. We put in some funky background and we even made our sprites speak!

ICT Coding

During Thursday’s  ICT lesson we learnt about event handlers and created our own Flappy Bird game using them. Some of us got very creative and changed our games to make them more fun and unique. Next time we hope to try out different event handlers and play each other’s games. We are getting very confident at this coding business now. ☺

Today as part of the V&A Transition Project we worked with the A.M nursery boys and girls to design what cars might look like in 2068. We designed the cars on paper first then we used Textease to bring our designs to life.
