The Big Pedal Event

On Friday 29th April the whole school took part in The Big Pedal Event where children were encouraged to cycle or scooter to school. We had such a fantastic response that we ran out of room in the bike locker! The winning class was p3m with 89% of the class cycling or scootering to school. They have won an extra gym session with Miss Sheridan with activities of their choice.big pedal big pedal nursery big pedal result

FairAware!

The children’s choice commitee (CCC) and Eco committees have identified sustainability as an action to undertake this year, particularly raising awareness of Fairtrade.  Primary 6 embraced Fairtrade as their context and through the work they have carried out, we are now a Fair Aware school having achieved our first Fairtrade school award. P6 and the CCC have been pro-active in making changes in our school. We now have Fairtrade products available in our dinner hall, we run a very successful Fairtrade tuck shop and we have introduced Fairtrade products to our staff room.

We are now working towards our second Fairtrade award and due to the combined efforts of p6 and the CCC we are well on our way to achieving this.

Eco Update

Litter continues to be an issue in our school particularly when it is windy. Eco reps visited classes last week to remind them of the importance of keeping our playgrounds tidy. P3 are in charge of litter picking in the infants playground and are up and running with a litter rota.

We will be taking part in the “Wrigley’s Litter Less” campaign and have been discussing what initiatives we could undertake for this challenge. We are keen to source a new bin for the middle and upper playground. Watch this space for updates.

Eco Update

Welcome to our Eco Blog.

A new Eco committee has been elected for 2015/2016. We have decided to tackle litter as our first action. New litter rotas are in place for both playgrounds where each day P3 and P4 will monitor the amount of litter in each playground.  They will award either green, amber or red status depending on how many pieces of litter they have collected. We are aiming for each playground to be green each day to earn an extra playtime.
