House Hobbies

Just a reminder that if pupils have not already brought in their £2 contribution for house hobbies, can they please bring it in asap.  Thank you.

Also a huge thank you to all of you who have said you are available to come in and help.  Please come in on the days you have said you can help unless you hear otherwise.  The more helpers the better!

Telling the time.

Every Wednesday in class we are learning to tell the time.  Currently some pupils are working on quarter to and quarter past whilst others are learning to tell the time to 5 minute intervals.  Currently we are using an analogue clock but will soon be moving on to digital too.  It would help your child if they can find opportunities outwith school to tell the time to cement their knowledge and understanding.  There are also games on Education city that they can play.

Week ending 11/11/16

We made poppy wreaths and we coloured in a picture of poppies for remembrance day. (Libby J) I learned that in a Edinburgh factory there were only 40 people working there and they  made 5 million poppies and they also made 10000 wreaths.  (Caelen)

In PE we did different jumps and it was fun.  I learned toe touch and tuck jumps.  (Elijah)  I learned how to do a dive forward roll. (Kaden)

We did the 50 club and I got on to it.  (Kasia)

On Tuesday they P4s worked with the P2s and we finished off our jungle art.  (Criag).  The artist we are learning about is Henri Rousseau.(Chloe)

In paired reading with P7 we took notes because we are going to create our own French books.  (Casey)

We have been collecting lego bricks for table points.  The winning table gets little coo for the week.  (Libby L)  Our table got Little Coo this week.  (Oscar)

We did experiments with the P6s to see if things dissolve or don’t dissolve.  (Kaden)  I enjoyed it.

Our week w/c 31/10/16

In Science we learned about Liquids and Solids .  We got cornflour and mixed it with water, it was very gooey! (Jessica) When you put your hand into the mixture slowly it was like a liquid but when you hit it hard it was like a solid. (Caelen)

We learned about adjectives and adverbs. Adverbs normally have a ly at the end.  (Isla)

In PE we are learning about Gymnastics.  We we were doing forward and backward rolls. (Rudy)

In maths we made our own time clocks.  It was fun. (Oscar). We also learned about adding using chimney sums. It’s brilliant! (Chloe)  We did the 50 club and I managed to get on to Level G! (Finlay)

In Writing we made a Storyboard.  It’s where you draw pictures about each scene of your story.  (Lauren)

We made firework pictures.  I liked how we used oil pastels and got to be creative with our fireworks.  (Miller) I thought it was really fun. (Cristen)  Before we did it we listened to a song that was in French about Fireworks. (Aidan)

We learned about Rights and Wants and Needs. (Freya)

In French the P3s learned what farm animals are called in France. A pig is a “cochon”.  (Casey)

What is a liquid?

A liquid is not a fixed shape. It is able to flow freely. Molecules in a liquid are not as tightly packed as in a solid. Liquids cannot be compressed.
How it flows is called “viscosity.” If a liquid is high viscosity it will flow slowly like honey and a low viscosity liquid will flow quickly like water.
Some liquids behave strangely. A non-newtonian liquid is a bit like a liquid and a solid. They change behaviour when a force is applied. Toothpaste becomes runny when it is mixed. Paint becomes thinner when it is stirred. Cream becomes thicker when it is mixed. A non-newtonian liquid does not always take the shape of its container.
In class we put cornflour in a bowl and added a little water. When you put your hand in slowly it sunk in the liquid but if you whacked it hard it acted like a solid.
