World of Work Week

As you will be aware this week in school is ‘World of Work Week.’  Therefore there will be no spelling or reading homework issued this week.  I will try to update you throughout the week with the activities we have been participating in.

It may be useful for the children to see the wide range of jobs that people have.  Therefore, if you would like to post a comment below with your current or previous job we will look at and discuss these in class.

  1. Rudy was very excited about this week. My job is a psychologist – what this means is that I try to find out how our brains work and how this makes us behave the way that we do (e.g., why do we remember some things and not others?). I know the class has done research on lots of topics before and this is what my job is. I do lots of experiments and then look at the results to help me understand people’s behaviour. I helped your Primary 7’s to do a psychology experiment last year and they all made fantastic scientists!

  2. When i am at work , I work as a staff nurse at the big hospital in Aberdeen . I look after patients that are going for operations in the ears, nose and throat department. My other role is a treatment room nurse at the doctors surgery. Here i see patients that need bloods taken , dressings changed from wounds they might have, injections and a lot more . My day is very busy but can be very exciting meeting new people.

  3. I work as a Finance Assistant and Contracts Administrator for an oil company. In my role I have to make sure that all our new employees have the correct paperwork before they start their new job. I also get to pay the new employees their wages every week. It is very important that I get this correct so I don’t pay anyone the wrong amount of money! I enjoy my job and enjoy working with the people in my office.
