Literacy: Handwriting: Mild

For those of you who have been doing the mild tasks on handwriting, focusing on your letter formations, here is a challenge on size.

In P2 we were focusing on getting our letters the correct size and to sit on the line properly. Once you are confident in how a letter should look you can challenge yourself to learn how to write it on the line properly.

Line guides

When we are writing on the line we can imagine 3 invisible lines or you can mark a soft dotted line to practise with.

The dotted line underneath is to show how far our tails can go on our letters such as – q,y,p,f,g,j

The first dotted line above our line shows the half way mark, this is where most of our letters will touch. Letters such as – q,w,e,r,y,u,o,p,a,s,d,g,h,j,k,z,x,c,v,b,n,m.

The second dotted line is where we see the stems of our letters reach to. These letters include – t,d,h,k,l,b

I was practising my letters in a sentence, but I don’t think I’ve got it just yet. My sentence has 20 letters can you tell me which letters are correct?  Could you tel me what I need to fix? Actually, could you rewrite the sentence correctly to show me where I’ve gone wrong. That would be an excellent form of feedback if you could speak me through how the letters should look on the line.

Literacy: Pobble: Hot

I love creative writing, especially when I have to think of a story with very little to go off of. It could be a picture, a video, a song that could be the inspiration for a story and from there you can build the world of your story to be anything.

I was really intrigued to give the Pobble HOT challenge a go, it was going to be my first HOT Challenge and I was really excited to try it. I felt much more confident after following Miss Deans Sway the other day on how to help build my story. She gave me tips and different things that I could consider to help make my piece of writing better.

On the website link there were lots of things to do relating to the picture so I decided to give them all a go and hopefully they would help me to create my story.

Here is a PDF link to my finished story, it can also be found at the end of my sway.

Pobble About to Hatch Story Starter

This is a great little project that can be completed over a longer period of time and it has all been created from one picture! How have you all got on with your Pobbles?

Well-Being Wednesday #2 Journal Entry: Mild

I thought I would share with you all a journal entry I did following the sentence starts for Mild from last Thursday. It has been quite strange the past week with lots of sudden changes to our normal routine. This has been quite challenging and once or twice I have forgotten what day it is. But on Thursday I went for a very long walk and counted so many beautiful rainbows in the people’s windows. Then in the evening I wanted to take part in #clapforourcarers but didn’t know what would happen at 8pm.  It was so lovely to open my lounge window and clap with so many other people with cheering and chanting. It was the first time that week that I had really interacted with other people.

How has your Journal Writing gone? Are you writing daily / every few days?

I also shared with you my idea of documenting this time on my journal cover, so I thought I would share with you how it is looking so far, is anybody else doing a doodle cover?

Tools for Learning: Sway

Hello Everyone,

You will have seen many people commenting in posts and speaking about Sway.
A few of the classes were shown Sway on final few days of school. That seems quite a long time ago now and it was a lot to remember. I have tried to make my first video tutorial to explain again. As teachers we are also learning new things and it’s very exciting.

Below you will find a Sway which takes you through all the steps in how to access Sway, Create your Sway and Share your Sway. It is split into four parts so that you can focus on the specific instruction you need support with.

There is lots of information but once you start to play around with the program it does become quite easy to follow.

Please DO NOT comment your Sway links on a blog post. The blog is public for everyone to get access to. Your sways should only be able to be accessed and edited by your teachers and yourself. If you make a new sway and want to share it with your teachers, please either send the link in an email or on seesaw.

You can also follow this link to Microsoft’s Youtube which offers multiple videos on Sway.

I hope this helps, please do not hesitate to comment any questions.

Spelling Battleships: Fancy a game? Literacy

Spelling Battleships

Want to try something new to help with learning your spelling words.

This game can be played with any collection of words, players can use different words or words from the same list.

Just like battleships you are trying to sink words not ships. The instructions are on the pdf provided. If you do not have a printer do not worry, you can easily make up two grids with a pencil and ruler.

I played the game with someone and we chose words from the Spicy Column. I can’t wait to hear how you get on.

Well-Being Wednesday w/ Mr Mutch #1

Mr.Mutch’s Learning Journal

My P2s know that Wednesdays are special, they even have a special name. We call them Well-Being Wednesdays, at school we try to cover our Health and Well-Being topics on that day. So, I was thinking how do I do that for the blog.

Taking inspiration from all the lovely colouring I’ve seen,  I’ve had some time to myself and coloured in my own Johanna Basford colouring page. It was very detailed and my pencils were not small enough, although it was difficult it was really relaxing.

Because this is all quite new to us all, I want to record what I am doing in many ways just like you are doing in your journals and on sway.

I’ve decided to cover my journal with a blank sheet of paper and for each day I’m going to put a small doodle or picture to mark something that happened that day. I can’t wait to see how it looks in a few weeks time. It could be my own personal where’s wally.

My first few drawings are; 1 – Day one it all started 2 – My Thumper story and 3 – Today I made some yoghurt bark.

If you want to join in, it would be great to see pictures of them in the coming weeks and if you start now you can easily catch up, its only been three days.

Happy Doodling on this Well-Being Wednesday.

You do the Marking – Literacy MILD

Morning Everyone,

I hope you all enjoyed our first day of online learning and are ready to start Day 2.  I’ve decided to keep my own Learning Journal completing some of the activities from the grids. Yesterday I decided to write a story about Thumper from the Mild column.

I thought about the W5 (who, what, when, where & why) and then decided to write my story. One thing my P2 class know very well about me is that I make so many mistakes and the pupils always help me to correct my work. Sadly I forgot to check my work before I took a photo of it.

Could you check my work for me, what mistakes have I made and what should I do to fix them?

I look forward to reading your feedback, Mr.Mutch

Have a G.R.E.A.T Day!
