HGIOS 4 – Core QIs

HGIOS4 has a dedicated Core Quality Indicator on Learning, Teaching and Assessment – QI 2.3, which has a particular focus on ensuring high-quality learning experiences for all children and young people.

It is worthwhile considering the Level 5 illustrations (HIGIOS4 Pg. 36), the features of highly effective practice and the challenge questions when engaging in self-evaluation activity around learning, teaching and assessment within your setting.

There are other Quality Indicators (which are not Core QIs) that are worth considering, including QI 1.2 Leadership of Learning, which relates to leadership of improvements in learning and teaching.  It gives a level 5 illustration (HIGIOS4 Pg. 22), features of highly effective practice and challenge questions around professional engagement, career-long professional learning and young people leading learning

Overall, HGIOS4 is a toolkit for schools to use to engage in evidence-based analysis of what is working well and what needs to improve to have greater positive impact on learners.  Use of the framework will strengthen any self-evaluation work in your setting
