p5-7 used this powerpoint to share the results of our environmental review with p1-4 and held a blind vote to decide which 2 topics would join ‘Climate Action’ on our Green Flag Action Plan.
All the teachers added their lessons and projects which cover some of the Eco Schools Topics to this document. It shows that we learn lots about keeping our planet and ourselves healthy in every class at Catterline School.
P5/6/7 put the data from our weekly food waste recycling and monthly litter collections into Excel Spreadsheets to create graphs which can be displayed to share our impact.
These show we collected nearly 18kg of litter across the 2 years and diverted 490kg of food waste from landfill.
When we invited parents in to school for the Nativity and end of term assembly, our clerical assistant Mrs Morrison, displayed all the school uniforms which had been donated for re-use by families. This saves waste as well as money.
During the snowy weather, we put bird food on the table as well as in the feeder to provide for birds which don’t use the feeder. Attracting birds to outside the classroom will make the Big Bird Watch easier to do.
P1/2 wrote this letter to encourage families to re-think and re-use instead of buying a new Christmas jumper every year. We are looking forward to our Christmas jumper exchange.
P4 boys helped to load bags of clothes for recycling onto the lorry. This donation made money for the school fund and meant that the clothes were re-used or recycled instead of going to landfill.
The children from p5/6/7 enjoyed harvesting the potatoes onions and garlic we grew this year.We cooked delicious home fries using our own onions and potatoes just harvested from the garden. We discussed food miles and how beneficial it is to grow your own vegetables. We worked as a team to wash, peel and chop then the p5 pupils cooked the home fries for everyone to enjoy.
