They will be meeting again early next term to discuss the Fairtrade tuck shop and Fairtrade fortnight.

Schools will rock you

On Monday P6/7 classes and I went to Schools Will Rock You,  a musical put on by the pupils of the Gordon Schools. It was held in the big hall at the secondary and it started at half one and finished at three o ‘clock, but unfortunately we missed the end because we had to go home.

The story was about two people in love.  A lot of the cast wore tops that said gaga kids. There was lots of singing and dancing and it was great fun.

Horse logging

Primary 4A and 4B were very lucky to be able to go down to the meadows to watch the horse logging last Thursday (Nov 30th). The trip was organised by Aberdeenshire Council and the Forestry Commission.

Over a period of 3 weeks about 155 trees had been moved from the Meadows using the traditional method of horse logging.

They learnt about the importance of the woods for encouraging wildlife, the uses of the forest (for paper production and fuel) and why the forest was being thinned.  The Clydesdale horse was being used to move the felled logs because it was able to fit into smaller space that a tractor wouldn’t be able to fit into.

The children were able to stroke Wesley, the horse and help to feed him.

Ther outing was very interesting and everyone enjoyed seeing the horse and learning about logging.

Fairtrade Elections

The Fairtrade Elections will take place on the week of the 26th November 2012.

At the start of the elections everyone from each classs will choose who they want  to be  representative or vice representative for their class.

Reps and vice reps  would attend a meeting every term to discuss FAIRTRADE in the school. They help decide what the school does over FAIRRADE fortnight. They might publicize FAIRTRADE events at assembly. P6 and 7  reps help out at a FAIRTRADE stall at parents evening.

We are hoping to start a FAIRTRADE tuckshop once a week and some reps would be able to help out with this.

Sharing Assembly

Musicians Allysson Velez and Keith Cockburn joined the primary 4 classes to share the results of their 5 week block of music workshops with the school at a very lively musical assembly. The P4s sang “Ye Cannae Shove yer Grannie af a Bus” and “Three Craws” accompanied by Keith on guitar. They also joined in with the chorus of a “coco” song in Portuguese, warning about the dangers of fishing near sharks, accompanied by Allysson on pandero. A group of pupils then danced a “Ciranda” which is a  Brazilian circle dance. It was a very entertaining assembly.

Primary 4 enjoyed learning about scottish and brazilian music, and are sorry that the workshops have come to an end. Thank you Keith, Allysson for coming to Gordon Primary to work with us and Deveron Arts for providing the workshops.

Bee Happy

Classes at Gordon Primary have been taking part in workshops for the past two weeks as part of Huntly’s Wellbeing Festival, which will take place in Huntly from September 20th- 24th.

Classes have been learning, through games, about the importance of pollination and the part bees play in this. They have also been learning a “Waggle Dance”, similar to the dance that bees perform to inform each other where to find pollen. Pupils have also made costumes that they will bee able to wear at “The Swarm” parade .

Pupils are being encouraged to join in with the “The Swarm” parade on Sunday 23rd at 1.00 pm, from the town Square to Battlehill.

We hope you will all bee there!
