Prefects

Gordon Primary has welcomed prefects to the school.

A prefects job include setting a good example, helping around the school, showing new people around and helping at wet play times!

They started helping out around the school this week.

They are all primary sevens. They introduced themselves at last weeks assembly and they all got a badge to wear.

Sharing Assembly

Musicians Allysson Velez and Keith Cockburn joined the primary 4 classes to share the results of their 5 week block of music workshops with the school at a very lively musical assembly. The P4s sang “Ye Cannae Shove yer Grannie af a Bus” and “Three Craws” accompanied by Keith on guitar. They also joined in with the chorus of a “coco” song in Portuguese, warning about the dangers of fishing near sharks, accompanied by Allysson on pandero. A group of pupils then danced a “Ciranda” which is a  Brazilian circle dance. It was a very entertaining assembly.

Primary 4 enjoyed learning about scottish and brazilian music, and are sorry that the workshops have come to an end. Thank you Keith, Allysson for coming to Gordon Primary to work with us and Deveron Arts for providing the workshops.

Sharing Assemblies

This week it was the turn of P5a (Ms Barrerre’s class) and P6b (Mrs   Fitzpatrick’s  class) to share what they have been learning at the upper stages assembly.

P5B have been studying the BFG by Roald Dahl. They started to think about what giants might eat, and decided they might like brains and bones. They found out many interesting facts about the brain, including how much an adult brain weighs (over a kilo!) and which part of the brain do different jobs. They also found out about bones, such as how many bones in a adults body and the names of different types of bones. They created some lovely artwork about the BFG and found out about the author.

P6 read some exciting pieces of writing they had done over the term including a class collaboration (which we hope to post here soon). They told us about the Health Award they were working towards.

It was very interesting to hear what both classes had been doing.

Sharing Assemblies

Some classes have been sharing what they have been doing this term with the school at assembly.

Last week P7 told the school about their WW2 project. They showed models they had made of gas masks and Anderson Shelters. Everyone carried their own gas mask in a box in case of a gas attack. Some pets even had gas masks. They explained how every child who was evacuated had to wear a label saying who they were and where they came from.

We heard the noise of the siren that warned people about an air raid, telling them to hurry to their anderson shelter.

Then p4c recited their amusing poems that they wrote for Roald Dahl day. They were based on nursery rhymes and were very silly! We enjoyed listening to them.
