We have to swim 50 meters (2 lengths).  My time is 37:09, Leah’s time is 39:98, Katie’s time is 38:56 and Jasmine’s time is 32:62!  We all have really good times and we hope to get PB’s (Personal Best). Our time all together is 1.48.25 (1 Minute 48 Seconds And 25 milliseconds) Our coach Ivan is very happy with our times,  but he hopes we can get a bit faster. We have to work very hard and train for one and a half  to two  hours a day. We train for three to five days a week!

Nursery Bug Hunt

The nursery pupils were looking for bugs in the Nursery garden. They found worms, woodlice, snails and even a cat!!  The good places where they found lots of bugs were in the soil and under the fence. They observed the minibeasts carefully and talked about how it was important not to harm small creatures.

The Fruit Trees

All of P3 were planting trees in the school grounds with Norma Hunter as part of “the edible walk”.

I  think all of them had fun! They planted apple ,plum and pear trees. We are looking forward togetting fruit on the trees that everyone can enjoy eating!

The idea behind the edible walk is that people in the community can walk around Huntly, from Battlehill down to the Deveron  and taste food that has been planted along the way.

Cricket Championship!

P6 are away to Stoneywood to do a cricket championship for Gordon Primary, all of us have wished them good luck! They have been praticing hard with a really good cricket coach called Neil Nicol. We have got our fingers crossed that they come back to school with a trophy. The cricketers seemed happy that they have got this far and we are happy for them too!

Cuban Visitors

P4C were visited this week by Celia and Junior, two Cuban artists who are visiting Huntly for 3 months for a residency with Deveron Arts. The artists are developing a project about friends and looking at if and how Facebook has affected friendships.

Celia and Junior talked to Primary 4 about their friendships and what they felt a good friend is. All children agreed that they would much rather play with their friends face to face than talk to them online.

The children asked Celia and Junior about Cuba. They found out about celebrations and festivals (they were surprised to hear that Cubans don’t get Easter eggs at Easter!) , weather, Cuban wildlife, food and music. They looked at a globe to see where Cuba is.

P4C really enjoyed meeting Celia and Junior and making friends with them!

Nursery menagerie

The lucky nursery pupils are lucky to be sharing thier classroom with lots of interesting creatures.

They have young frogs, which they reared successfully from tadpoles earlier this term.

They also have stick insects. The nursery pupils find it fascinating seeing how cleverly the insects camouflage themselves.

They are looking forward to their next arrivals; they are incubating hens’ eggs, which are due to hatch next Wednesday. They discovered that if they hold the eggs up to the light they can see the chick moving around inside it!

Book Author

An author came to visit P6-P7. The author`s name is Caroline Clough. She has written a book called the Red Fever, Black Tide and is writing a new book  just now. She told us about how she got her ideas and how she goes about writing her books.

She also let us buy her books.
