Nursery News

The nursery children have been finding out more about the school and the people in it, as part of their transition to Primary 1. They met important people in the school and found out what jobs they do. They also took photos of them.  People they met included the cooks, playground staff, the Janitor, the office staff and Mr Scrimshaw.

Chicken Man

As part of their project about Living Things  the Nursery children had a visit from a man who rears chickens.

He explained about how chickens grow in the egg and  how they hatch out. The children were able to watch the chickens and to gently stroke them to feel how soft and fluffy they were. Now they are even more excited for their own chicken eggs to hatch …not long now!

On Wednesday19th of June Jasmine (P7),Leah  (P6),Katie(P6) and Me (P6) are going to go to Edinburgh to compete in an event called Scottish Schools. We will be doing the front crawl relay. We have to swim 50 meters (2 lengths).  My time is 37:09, Leah’s time is 39:98, Katie’s time is 38:56 and Jasmine’s time is 32:62!  We all have really good times and we hope to get PB’s (Personal Best). Our time all together is 1.48.25 (1 Minute 48 Seconds And 25 milliseconds) Our coach Ivan is very happy with our times,  but he hopes we can get a bit faster. We have to work very hard and train for one and a half  to two  hours a day. We train for three to five days a week!

Nursery Bug Hunt

The nursery pupils were looking for bugs in the Nursery garden. They found worms, woodlice, snails and even a cat!!  The good places where they found lots of bugs were in the soil and under the fence. They observed the minibeasts carefully and talked about how it was important not to harm small creatures.

The Fruit Trees

All of P3 were planting trees in the school grounds with Norma Hunter as part of “the edible walk”.

I  think all of them had fun! They planted apple ,plum and pear trees. We are looking forward togetting fruit on the trees that everyone can enjoy eating!

The idea behind the edible walk is that people in the community can walk around Huntly, from Battlehill down to the Deveron  and taste food that has been planted along the way.

Cricket Championship!

P6 are away to Stoneywood to do a cricket championship for Gordon Primary, all of us have wished them good luck! They have been praticing hard with a really good cricket coach called Neil Nicol. We have got our fingers crossed that they come back to school with a trophy. The cricketers seemed happy that they have got this far and we are happy for them too!
