 Broad General Education S1-3

In S1 and S2 all pupils are timetabled for 1 period a week in Drama as part of the Expressive Arts curriculum. Pupils work through a range of units which challenge their creativity and problem solving skills using a variety of new technologies and resources. They will develop life/transferable skills and over the course of the 2 years learn to work both individually and as part of a team in order to build confidence through presentation skills.

In S1 an additional enrichment period is allocated  once  a week for half the year where the focus is on cross curricular learning opportunities within the Expressive Arts Faculty.

In S3 pupils follow an elective based course structure being able to select two out of three Expressive Arts subjects attending 2 periods a week for the duration of the year. The choice to work within an elective based structure enables pupils to deepen their skills in preparation for certificated courses while maintaining the ethos of a BGE. During the year pupils work on a large range of production skill design workshops including set, sound production, costume, hair, make-up, lighting, and also further develop essential drama and performance skills. They will also have the opportunity to choose a role within a whole class production from a popular scripted play culminating in a small scale performance for an invited audience. Working in this way provides a strong foundation for pupils to progress into the senior phase working at National 4 and 5.
