Broad General Education S1-3

In S1 and S2 pupils have one period a week in Music.

 S1

There are four topics which all S1 pupils will experience during the first year at Forfar Academy.  Each topic will allow pupils to perform music in a variety of styles, learn music related concepts and receive homework to compliment the units of work.  These topics are: Introduction to Classroom Instruments, Rock n’ Pop Charity Unit, Programme Music and History of Rock n’ Pop.

S2

There are five topics in S2.  These are: Introduction to Composition, History of Music, Skill Building, World Music and Instruments of the Orchestra.  Just as in S1 all pupils will be given the opportunity to perform music in a variety of styles, learn music related concepts and receive homework to compliment the units of work.

S3
To support greater personalisation and choice, S3 pupils will follow an elective based course structure and will select either one or two out of the three Expressive Arts subjects. Pupils will be in their chosen subject areas for 2 periods a week. The choice to work within an elective based structure enables pupils to deepen their skills and broaden experience in preparation for certificate courses.

S3 pupils will experience 6 units in music.  These are Reggae Music, Film Music, Scottish Music, Blues Music, Rock Music and Music and the Media.  Pupils will be given the opportunity to perform music in a variety of styles, learn music relates concepts and receive homework to complement units of work.
