Acting Principal Teacher: Mr A. Marshall
The Health Improvement faculty is made up of two departments: Home Economics and Physical Education.
Broad General Education S1-S3
All pupils in S1-3 experience 4 periods in the faculty. Two periods in the home economics department and 2 periods in the Physical Education department in line with Education Scotland expectations. Across S1 and 2 all pupils are taught in mixed sex, mixed ability classes and where possible pupils stay with the same teacher S1 into 2. In S3 pupils are block in half /third year groups where there are attempts to compose classes according to pupils ability, interest and future aspirations in each of the subjects.
In Home Economics a mix of practical and theory allows all pupils to make progress appropriate to their individual needs. A range of approaches are used to allow pupils to show their understanding of content and the skills they have developed. A number of competitions are used to showcase pupil achievement and recognise the ability of pupils in the department.
In Physical Education a BMT (Better movers and thinkers) based curriculum allows all pupils to achieve success and develop at a level appropriate to their needs. Achievement is recognised in class, through external awarding bodies and our own departmental achievement ceremony.
