Spelling Activities

Spelling Word Bunting

One of the choices on our spelling menu is to do something creative with our spelling words. Here are some of our Stars with their great ideas. We are going to have a special noticeboard in out classroom to dispay our fantatstic spelling work.

Another of our choices is to practise our words in shaving foam on a baking sheet. Here we are practising in class. It was a wee bit messy but good fun!

Monster Problem Solving

Trying out our monster faces!

We are using our problem solving skills to work out the solution to maths stories.

Today we tried work out the answer to a story about different coloured monsters. We are going to start a maths vocabulary wall. Today, Mrs Stewart wanted us to remember that the word “equal” can mean the same quantity or amount.

Star of the Week

Mr Robb phones parents at home to pass on the good news that their child has been chosen as the Star of the Week. Well done to this week’s star from Primary 2S.

Four groups tied for Group of the Week so we have rolled the points over until next week.

Spelling

We are trying out some new ways of doing our spelling this year. Each week we are given a spelling pre-test with the sound that we will be studying. We are then given one of two lists, depending on the score we achieve in the pre-test. Our spelling list consists of 5 spelling pattern words and 5 sight words.

We are aiming to practise our spelling words every day with class games and activities.

We also have a Spelling Menu for our homework. The spelling menu lasts for a month and we can choose two activities to complete every week. After this menu is finished we will get a new menu of activities.

Our Spelling Menu

This week we are learning about short /e/ words. We looked at the tricky bits to spell in the words.

Moshi Monsters

This term we will be using Moshi Monsters as a context for a cross curricular project focusing on health and wellbeing, ICT and art.

Read this article from Learning and Teaching Scotland about a school in Stirling who carried out their own very successful Moshi Monsters project.

We have all adopted our own monsters online. Today we made a mind map of what out monsters would need to keep them happy and healthy. We are going to use this as basis for our learning over the coming weeks.

Patterns

We have been learning about patterns. We have learned that an AB pattern is a repeating pattern of two things.

On Friday we tried to make ABC pattern. ABC patterns use 3 different things to make a repeating pattern. We rotated in groups to experiment making colour patterns with pegs, cubes and paint. We also tried to make shape patterns by drawing around them.

Friday Superstars

Star of the Week

Every Friday we award certificates to our Group of the Week and Star of the Week. They are all children in our class who have been trying really hard with their work and behaviour.

The group of the week have a special trophy that sits on their desk all week.

The Star of the Week gets to choose something from Mrs Stewart’s special prize box.

Each week we can can also earn raffle tickets by following our class and school rules. On Friday, Mrs Stewart picks one raffle ticket from her box to be the winner and they can also choose a prize from the special box. Of course, the more raffle tickets we earn, the more chances we have of winning!

Well done to this week’s Friday Superstars. Keep up the good work.

Safety in the Home

Mrs Menmuir visited our class yesterday to talk about safety at home. We talked about accidents we had had at home and how these could have perhaps been prevented.

We worked together in groups to identify dangers around the house and garden from a special set of pictures that Mrs Menmuir had. We had to be super detectives to also find something that was safe in the picture. Each group then talked to the rest of the class about what we had found out.

The Singing Superstars

Yesterday, we were singing some songs and the girls in the class wanted to share this one with you. What a class of super singers I have this year.

The Desk Fairy

Peppa checks our desks when we have gone home!

After we have gone home at night, Peppa the Desk Fairy flies around our classroom and checks if all the desks are tidy. If they are, she leaves us a little treat! We are all working hard to make sure she visits our desk.
