We have been learning about bats this month and doing all sorts of bat based literacy, maths and art activities.
The Superstars read the book “Stellaluna” by Janell Cannon. We discussed what we had learned about bats from the book and made a venn diagram of the similarities and differences between bats and birds.
Our class watched a powerpoint about real bats and have started to learn about some of the features of non-fiction texts.
We also watched a short animated film called “Nightshift.” It is about a bat who can’t sleep during the day because some hungry baby birds, who live in the same tree, are making too much noise. We made some predictions about the ending but it wasn’t what we expected!!!
We used our literacy keys, Christopher Character and Sally Setting, to create a character called Fat Bat and then describe the cave where it lives. Mrs Stewart loved reading about Fat Bat’s creepy cave.
We made up some bat word problems of our own in maths for addition and subtraction. We also made some symmetry bats in our ICT lessons.
In art, we painted these lovely bat silhouettes against a sunset.
Whilst learning about bats, we also came across this video about bats and echolocation.

And this one, as it fitted in nicely with our spelling work on vowels ( I hope you see this tonight Robert!).
