Writing
This week we were learning about recipes. Miss Dow had an empty cauldron and some ingredients folded up in a bowl. Some of us got to unfold an ingredient, show it to the rest of the class and put it in the cauldron to mix up Miss Dow’s potion! The potion was to turn someone into a frog and Miss Dow said she would turn any children who were not listening into frogs! The ingredients were pretty disgusting – squidgy eyeballs, the tail of a rat, fairy dust and even brains! Together we wrote some instructions (the method) for her potion before creating and writing our own potions. We had to use bossy verbs and put our ‘method’ in the correct order.
ICT
We are now working on our typing skills in ICT. We use BBC Dancemat and we were learning about the ‘home row.’ We know that this is where our fingers should be when we are typing. We are trying to remember to use both hands and not just one finger! Miss Dow had to keep reminding us not to look at our hands but keep looking at the screen to type the letters of the home row.
RME/Health
Continuing with our theme of ‘beliefs,’ we have been thinking about our families. We spoke about traditions in our family and our nationalities and the people we live with. We know that other people all over the world have different traditions, sometimes based upon their religion. We had to create our own coat of arms for our family. We had to include things our family believe in and what is special to us. We learned that coat of arms first came about to help recognise knights in armour as they all looked the same. We also found out that sometimes families would hire an artist to create a coat of arms for them. We looked at the different animals and what values they stand for and some of us incorporated this into our design.
Topic – Wall-E
We have been finishing off our robot designs from last week. Here are some photos of us. We are all very proud of our finished work.
Drama
For our last drama lesson this term we were acting out a scene from a classroom. We had to have a teacher character and some of the groups wanted to use comedy in their performances. A lot of the performances had very naughty classes – thankfully not like 3D! We spoke about facing the audience and making sure that everyone had a role. We have enjoyed becoming more confident in drama this term and experiencing working in many different groups. Next term we will be learning Music in our normal drama timetable slot.
Art
Since we have been learning about Autumn we created some stick hedgehogs! We got to go outside into the playground and hunt for lots of different sized sticks to help us with our piece of art. We learned that hedgehogs can have around 7000 spines! Also that the spines do not grow on their faces, tummy or legs. We enjoyed using natural materials in our art and thinking about positioning the sticks to create an effective hedgehog.
Holidays
We have had such a busy and hard-working first term in Primary 3! Everyone has settled in to Primary 3 life and have been successful learners. I hope everyone has a very well-deserved October break and I can’t wait to see what Term 2 brings for us! Happy Holidays!
