Week beginning 25.09.18

I hope everyone had a lovely long weekend.

As always, we have had a busy 4 day week this week.

Writing

We have been looking at alliteration this week. We had to describe a funfair and try and use alliteration in our descriptions. We used highlighters to highlight any WOW words or alliteration. (photos courtesy of Holly)

Spelling

We spoke about our spelling sounds this week and worked in a pair or in a group to identify and spell words with the same sound. The Badgers group were playing a game on the interactive whiteboard where they had to click on planets to spell the words correctly and get the letters in the right order.

We also were thinking about NOUNS this week. Check out this video that we found very catchy and it made us remember what a noun is!

Topic- Wall-E

Wall-E has been getting up to mischief again this week! On Wednesday it took us until the afternoon to find him as he had chosen such a sneaky hiding place. In Topic this week we have been working as part of a group to try and make up a short radio news  flash to tell listeners about something that affects the environment. We have been thinking about what would be a good introduction and what the name of our radio station might be. We had to try and tell the listeners key information about our chosen area. For example, one group were reporting about plastic in the ocean and another group were reporting about families not turning off their lights when they are not using them. Next week we are going to record our news onto voice recorders and share them with the class. (Photos by Callum)

Health + Wellbeing

As well as doing Circle Time with Miss Dow every Tuesday we see Mrs Cox every Thursday afternoon. She always has the chairs in the studio put into a circle for us to sit on. This week we were learning about positive thinking and when we passed the bunny around the circle we had to share  a happy thought that we had that day with the rest of the circle.  For our Fun Five Minutes this week we were doing a  game where we had to dress up in funny clothes and one person left the room and came back in and had to work out who was dressed in the funny costume. Mrs Cox said this was good for having good mental health. (info and photos courtesy of Eilidh)

Drama

This week in drama we were playing a game where we had to use our imagination. We all sat in a circle and passed around a shoe. When we were holding the shoe we had to imagine who it belonged to and share our idea with the class. Some of us thought the show belonged to a unicorn, famous runner, singer or even an ogre. We then were thinking about different ways we could move around the room. This will give us good ideas to include in our future drama performances. We had to think of a jiggly way to move around or a rolling way or even a jumping way.

Road Safety

On Friday we had a visit from Allan and his Road Safety Magic Show! Allan taught us to STOP (hold out hand in a stop motion), LOOK (hold hand on forehead), LISTEN (hold hand to ear) and THINK (point to brain) when crossing the road. We even had to do a new version of the Hokey Cokey using these actions. He showed us lots of magic tricks and we all had lots of fun. See below for some of our comments and what we learned…

Georgie – The lollipop lady shouting was funny!

Alex – I need a vest like that for the school disco

Tylar – I don’t know how he did the trick with the light

Arjun – How did the ball become invisible?

Sophie – The lollipop lady shouting was freaky!

Grace – The drawing was bonkers!

Pippa – It was really funny and freaky when the lollipop lady’s eyes were moving

Ross – I went bonkers!

Callum – It was so so so creepy when the picture was screaming!

Oscar – I learned when you cross the road you have to stop, look, listen, think

Jamie – I learned about the green, yellow and red lights and where you should position on the pavement

Rebecca – When you are near a parked car you should stop and look before you cross the road

Grant – I learned that drivers can’t always see people crossing the road

Luca – My Dad always says to move away from parked cars and cross up the road

Logan – I learned that when the green man is flashing you can’t cross

I love the sound of sharing feelings in circle time it is good for the children to learn about expressing these in a safe and positive way.
Wee Closey has been all about the spelling and seems to be doin no too bad. We are picking random object and he is attempting these.
I enjoy hearing where Wall E turns up and what challenges he is setting you all…. Conor is teaching me fractions as they were not my strong suit!
