Aims: The course will
1. Outline the theoretical and pedagogical background to teaching the media at National level
2. Relate teaching and learning to internal assessment requirements of National 3, 4 and 5 Media
3. Relate teaching and learning to external assessment requirements of National 5 Media.

Teaching Higher Media (advanced)

Aims: The course will
1. Outline recent theoretical and pedagogical developments in teaching the media
2. Exemplify these developments in relation to multiple texts and media/society elements of Higher Media
3. Relate teaching and learning to internal and external assessment requirements of Higher Media.

About the tutor: Rick Instrell is a founder member of AMES (Association for
Media Education in Scotland, www.mediaedscotland.org.uk) and co-wrote
the original SQA Media Studies arrangements. He has taught media & film
studies at school and university levels and is a reguler contibutor to AMES’
‘Media Education Journal’. He runs a CPD and consultancy business (Deep
Learning, www.deep-learning.co.uk) and has acted as a consultant on media
projects for Channel 4 and Film Nation UK. He is an associate of the National
Schools Partnership and is working on BFI’s Film Nation UK project.
