Kirn Primary P7 are the Music Business at James Watt College

Kirn Primary P7 are the Music Business at James Watt College We have been working on mixing our own music in school using Garage Band for our space topic, and on Friday 31st May Kirn Primary P7 pupils had an exclusive tour around the Music Department at James Watt College in Greenock. We visited the subterranean drumming studio, the hi-tech mixing studios and the DJ studio to see how music is created and crafted.
On the drums everyone was treated to a drumming session on full size electronic and acoustic kits, and got ten seconds at the end to go completely wild!
On to state of the art mixing studios, where we saw the recording studio and each sat in the ring of mixing studios surrounding it to isolate tracks and create our own unique mix of “Let’s go” by Calvin Harris.
Lastly, we visited Bunty with his mixing decks and we all had the chance to learn about different kinds of scratches – baby scratches, cutting and stabbing – and how to use them with the ultra-cool backing loop track.
Check out the James Watt website at HERE Thanks to James Watt College and Mr Brown for organising the trip, and big thanks to Ian, Hugh and DJ Bunty for showing us their specialities in music and giving us a fantastic morning.

  1. Looks like tremendous fun! What a great way of broadening the pupil\’s experience of music in the modern world.
