Saturday 11th May was a day of massive celebration for the P4 children of St. Joseph’s Primary School and their families as the children received the Sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time. Rain did not dampen the spirits of the excited youngsters as they turned out in their finery for this very special day at St. Joseph’s Church. The children were ably supported by many family members and the church was full to bursting.
The children were a credit to their parents as they presented themselves so reverently at Church. Everyone commented on the lovely occasion, giving some well-deserved praise to the children’s teachers Miss Trainer, Mrs Stewart and Mrs McMurtrie who had worked so hard to prepare the children for this very important day. A beautiful service was conducted by Parish Priest Father Lennon with the ladies of the parish and members of the school’s PTA organising a beautiful breakfast in the church hall for the children and their families. Ms Collins, Head teacher, said, ‘This has been such a special day for the children, staff, parents and parish community. We are so grateful to all who contributed to this very important occasion, the children were excellent and everyone enjoyed the celebration .”
It was a very special day and the children were indeed a credit to their parents, school, parish and community. As a parent and a teacher this year I was very proud of all the children and had a lovely day. Special thanks to everyone involved. As Father Lennon said, “these things do not happen by themselves.”
