Our whole school have just finished a Dark Days Challenge Week of road safety activities and events organised in conjunction with Towards Zero Carbon Bute, a local environmental organisation. We worked in our eco groups – Healthy Living Group, Pupil Council and Eco Group – to plan and run a week’s programme of events based on keeping ourselves safe on the roads during winter – dark days!
We had a range of activities including a walking bus to school 2 mornings of the week, supported by parents and the Police, design a bright bike competition, daily travel surveys and rewards for traveling to school in a healthy way, whole school walk and a special assembly to celebrate our achievements.
The Healthy Living Group – who are all trained Junior Road Safety Officers JRSOs – planned a special lesson for the P1/2 class with 4 activities and they discovered the trials and tribulations of teaching pupils!
At the final assembly, all the pupils had the chance to show off any talents they had in a North Bute’s Got Talent Special and fantastic prizes and rewards were given out, courtesy of Towards Zero Carbon Bute and local Bute businesses that were supporting this great initiative!
A lot of fun was had by all and well done to the pupils who were responsible for the planning and organisation of it all.
