Rothesay Primary P7 Burns Supper

On the 25th of January, the Primary 7 classes of Rothesay Primary School had their Burns Supper at Mount Stuart. A group from our class went out to Mount Stuart to set up the venue, including ‘red, red roses’ at each table. We were so lucky to have such a beautiful venue for our Burns Supper! Mount Stuart also helped us out at the last minute by providing their mini-bus (plus driver) when we realised ours had been double booked! Thank you everyone at Mount Stuart for accommodating us.

The supper started with a welcome from Andrew Middleton and Lauren McMillan. The Selkirk Grace was spoken by Calumn McGregor. The haggis came in with a spectacular performance by Mark McLachlan (S2) on his bagpipes, followed by the ‘Address to the Haggis’ which Kyle Menzies; William Boag; John Rippie and Jordan Leitch entertained us with. They did such a great job!
After that came the Haggis, Neeps and Tatties (mmmmm, yummy). We would like to thank MacQueens Butchers of Rothesay for their generous donation of the deliciously braw haggis. The food was expertly prepared by Mr Briggs from Rothesay Academy and his skilled team of students. Thank you Mr Briggs!
The ‘Immortal Memory’ was spoken by Abigail Clifford and Kai Bowie. ‘Willie Wastle’ was recited by all of Primary 7 followed by the rousing song ‘ Ye Jacobites’ accompanied by Jamie Murray (S3) on his guitar. Mrs Nicol, from the Academy read ‘Tam O’ Shanter’, a very entertaining poem about a man called Tam and his spooky experience at Kirk Alloway. Nicola Graham and Beth Swan showed us their amazing singing talents, by singing ‘Ye Banks and Braes’ and ‘Caledonia’.

Rachael McFarlane and Frances South recited ‘ A Red, Red Rose’, followed by a highland dance performed by Jenna Myler and Kiera Seath. Jennifer Murray recited ‘ My Hoggie’ about her pet lamb and Elizabeth Harley recited a funny poem called, ‘A Dug,A Dug’ by Bill Keys. Kianna Zavaroni and Cameron Richards gave the ‘Vote of Thanks’, followed by all of Primary 7 singing ‘Auld Lang Syne’.
Primary 7 would like to thank everybody who took part and made the Burns Supper so special.
Thank You. by Beth Swan and Abigail Clifford.
