Lismore Primary School P5-P7 have just completed this term’s enterprise project holding a book launch for their Celebrity Cook Book with a Fairtrade Café on Friday 6th March. This is their report:
We decided to make and sell a recipe book to raise money for our Stramash Week at the end of May. The project started at the beginning of this term and we did it on Mondays and Fridays with Hazel, our classroom assistant.
We first looked up about famous chefs on the internet and then we wrote a letter to the chefs to ask them to donate a recipe for our cook book. When we started receiving replies we felt very happy. The chefs wrote personal letters and you can see some of them in the recipe book. We helped to make the book by deciding which pictures to put in and by drawing some pictures ourselves. The cover was painted by one of the chefs – Paula Rennger who has a restaurant in Australia.
We launched the Celebrity Cook Book at our Fairtrade Café on Friday 6th March. We helped to organise this. We made posters and invitations and we each had different jobs to do at the café. The poster was made in publisher whilst the invitations were hand written. We also helped to bake the cakes that were for sale in the café. We used our prize money from winning the “Fairtrade Snack Attack Competition 2014” to buy the fairtrade ingredients for the baking.
During the project we all developed many skills – letter writing; research skills; money skills as well as cooking and serving customers and developing confidence.
Many newspapers wrote about our project including the Scottish Sun, the Express, and the Daily Record. We were even on the front page of the Glasgow Herald! We hope that this will help to sell lots of copies of the book. We hope that you will all buy a copy of Our Celebrity Cook Book and that you will enjoy trying out some of the recipes. It is available from the school at a cost £5 or by mail order for £6|(including P&P). Please write to firstname.lastname@example.org to order your copy.
The money we raise will go towards an outdoor trip for the P5s to P7s. We will be doing activities such as rock climbing, canoeing, coast-steering and a 7 mile walk. We will learn and a lot of new skills. But we will also be able to get to know people from other schools and become more independent and confident.
