Literacy:

We conducted an experiment to see how soap dissolves micro-organisms such as bacteria, and then we wrote an explanation of what happened and why.  We have been completing independent comprehension tasks in our reading groups, based on a novel of our choice.  This has included tasks such as making 3D scenes from the book, creating animations, writing alternative endings and completing a book review.

Numeracy:

We have continued with our algebra and most of us are now able to simplify third level equations! We have used our times tables knowledge again to solve equations and find the value of x.  In Maths we have been revising our speed, distance and time knowledge to help us with our problem solving.

IDL:

The Dragon’s Den team were successful at the West Lothian event on the 27^th February and we were awarded a grant to start our juice bar.  More details to follow next term!

We had a great day out to Dynamic Earth last Thursday.  The tour was really good, with lots of surprises along the way.  We learned lots about geology and the history of Earth.  The STEAM careers fayre was very interesting and we got to do lots of fun activities like deep dive with a VR device, hold small sea life creatures like crabs and starfish, and talk to people who work to conserve our oceans.

We are very excited about our P5-7 show!  We hope to see all of you on Thursday 16^th March!

We have also been busy with our art work for the art exhibition which will be held on the 29^th and 30^th of March.  P7 have completed 4 pieces of art in the last few weeks and they will choose which one they think represents their best work for the exhibition.

We are also very excited about our bike-ability sessions which will start on Wednesday 15^th March and every Wednesday until the end of term.  If your child has a bike of their own, then please bring it into school on a Wednesday along with a helmet, if possible.

We are hosting another coffee morning on Friday 17^th March.  The proceeds will be split between Comic Relief and our buses for camp.  We are looking for lots of kind donations of home baking to help make it a successful morning and we hope to see you there!

A – I have enjoyed Netball in PE because it helps me to keep fit.

T – Circuits in PE has been really fun!

I – I really enjoyed our trip to Dynamic Earth and learning more about the geology of Earth.

Literacy:

In literacy, we have been learning about Greek Mythology.  This has been our comprehension and writing focus since we returned after Christmas.  We have written our own myths and legends and we will be submitting some entries to Armadale Academy to be included in a cluster project novel, along with some Greek mythology artwork.

Numeracy:

In numeracy, we have been learning about square and cubed numbers, the square root of a number and prime numbers.  We have used our knowledge to complete very complex word problems and problem solving scenarios.  In maths, we have been finding the area and perimeter of different objects using our multiplication skills.

IDL:

We are very excited about our P5-7 show!  We are already learning our lines and songs.  We all have an important role to play in the show and we are busy designing stage backgrounds, stage directions, props and choreography to go along with our section of the show!  We can’t wait to share it with you on Thursday 16^th March!

We are also taking part in a social enterprise project.  We have decided as a year group to have a juice bar in school.  This will be a non-profit organisation with the proceeds going to a charity of the children’s choice.  A group of P7 pupils will be taking part in a Dragon’s Den event at Howden Park Centre to try and get funding to start our project.  We have worked together in groups to create a business model, logo, slogan and name for our juice bar.  Details will be shared with you soon!

Other Achievements:

We organised and ran another successful coffee morning to raise money for our Galaday float.  Thank you to all who donated baking and came along to support us!

O –I have enjoyed learning about the Greek Gods and Goddesses.

B – I’ve enjoyed doing square numbers because it is fun to learn a new way to do something in numeracy.

E – I liked learning how to find the area of an object in maths.

J – I think our learning has been more creative this term.

Literacy:

In literacy this week we have been learning how to structure and write an exposition.  We have been looking at persuasive language and vocabulary that we can use to persuade our reader.  In comprehension we have been looking at similar texts and answering evaluative questions.  We have finished our class novel – The Christmasaurus Cracker which we really enjoyed and we are hoping to start our new one after the holidays.

Numeracy:

In numeracy, we are finishing up a block of integers as part of our Academy transition.  In class, we are focussing on decimals and using the four operations.  We continue to practise our mental maths every day and our times tables especially the 7,8 and 12.

Topic/IDL:

We have completed another whole school STEAM challenge with lots of exciting activities such as designing and building our own snowball launcher, building the Tallest Christmas tree that we can and designing, building and testing an elf trap!  We have also started our Kindness Project where we are making Christmas cards and chocolate coins to say Thank You to people in our community.  Next week we plan to visit and deliver our Thank You gifts to spread some Christmas cheer!

Other Achievements:

Our coasters have sold well as part of our Enterprise project, if you did not have time to come to the Christmas Fayre, they are still on sale if you wish to purchase.  Just send in money with your child who can buy them at the tuck shop.

We had a successful transition morning on Friday at Armadale Academy where we took part in various activities with the S6 leadership team.  Our favourite activity was the scavenger hunt!

J – I enjoyed our Enterprise project and helping out at the Christmas Fayre.  It was so busy!

R – I liked the ending to the Christmasaurus cracker.

L – I can’t believe we are nearly halfway through P7.  The Academy looks good through, we had pizza for snack!
