The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch

IMG_0404 IMG_0405In Primary 2 and Primary 2/1 we have enjoyed learning more about lighthouses this week.  We have thought a lot about the purpose and importance of a lighthouse as well as the structure and shape.  Using our creative skills we used clay to mould our own individual lighthouse referring to our own design.  We had great fun getting messy and creative and cannot wait to put the final touches to our lighthouse models!

We were also set a challenge of creating one of the key characters in the story.  The seagulls are funny and have a big role in the story.  We were provided with some materials and told to make a seagull using only what was on the table. Each seagull was to be unique and its wings had to be able to move.  We showed great determination and problem solving skills in this activity and of course the challenge was completed successfully!

Our favourite mini beasts

During our literacy time we have all been thinking about our favourite mini beasts. We closed our eyes to think carefully about the characteristics of our creatures. Some of us thought of worms, butterflies, centipedes, spiders and ladybirds. We drew them onto a leaf and told our key worker some describing words for our mini beast. We thought of lots of WOW words!

Primary 3a Outdoor Active spelling

We chose to make the most of the lovely weather in P3a this afternoon and took our learning outdoors!

We worked with a partner and searched the playground for a variety of items such as sticks, stones and flowers to spell out our new spelling words for this week.  It was a great way to help us remember our new spelling patterns and we had so much fun outdoors.  We also used chalk to write our words and draw pictures to represent them.

P4 Book Project

The deadline for submitting the P4 book to the publishers is fast approaching. Mary Turner Thomson, our author, has sent us a copy of the book with our illustrations inserted and we are now busy editing it. We are also reviewing the story and illustrations sent by our partners in Mumbai. We really can’t wait to see the final product and share it with everyone at our official book launch at the end of April. Watch this space for more details….

P4 Book Project

In Primary 4 we are busy working on developing our story book in partnership with the Universal School in Mumbai and author Mary Turner Thomson. We have completed our illustrations and they will now be scanned and sent to the publishers. The character descriptions from India have also arrived and we will add them to our story. Our book will be completed soon and we can’t wait to see it in print. We will be having an official book launch at the beginning of May!

P6 Literacy: ‘Reverso Boy’

image
P6 enjoyed creating some newspaper reports about ‘Reverso Boy’…a fictional story about a boy who literally defies gravity! Taking inspiration from a short film, we had to observe and report the events that took place in a front page news article! We developed our note-taking skills by observing, listening and analysing.

Scottish Week in Nursery

We have been learning some great Scottish songs – ‘The Shoogly Woogly’ which would be the Hokey Cokey and ‘Heid, shouders, knaps and taes’ which is head, shoulders, knees and toes. Our favourite word was ‘lugs’. We have also read some lovely Scottish stories from the Hairy Maclary, Katie Morag and Hamish McHaggis series. By the end of the week many children could talk about the Scottish flag, speak some Scots, identify some iconic Scottish objects and know who Robert Burns was.
