P7b 30.9.16

On Monday Our House Captains were announced:

Houston: Shefali Mathur and Gregor Hollis

Alderstone: Harry Coupar and Alex Coyle

Howden: Finlay MacDonald and Jules Goodwin

Limefield: Scott Cooke and Natalie MacGillvray

Well done to all the candidates and their campaign groups for all their hard work!

On Thursday some of the P7 pupils attended an event at Craigswood Sports Centre. We had a great afternoon taking part in a variety of athletics activities. We took part in activities such as long jump, sprinting and relay race. We are awaiting the results to see how we got on! We tried our very best and demonstrated great sportsmanship!

Some P7 pupils stayed at school with Ms MacDonald and created presentations about the daily life of an MSP. We used devices to carry out research and work collaboratively to put together a presentation to share our findings.

We enjoyed parents visiting our class on Tuesday to share our learning and join us for our morning starter activity.

Comments from pupils:

“I really enjoyed going to the Athletics festival because it was great fun but also tiring!” Alexander

A short but sweet week in P7b! 23.09.16

House Captain candidates continued working hard this week on their campaigns. Each candidate presented in front of their house today and all pupils from Primary 1 to 7 got to vote for who they wanted to be the House Captains. Well done to all candidates and their campaign groups for all their hard work and we cannot wait to find out the results!

We enjoyed problem solving this week and used logic to help us. We had to select key information from clues to seat passengers on an aeroplane and ensure all passengers were happy.

PE was tiring and terrific. Mr Muldoon challenged us with circuits including skipping and running and we really had to push ourselves out of our comfort zones.

We explored the Global Goals and focused on Goal 5 – Gender equality. We discussed what that means to us and explored the story of Malala. We have some exciting homework to complete to help contribute to a huge survey.

An AWESOME week in P7b!

Miss Noble presented the Prefects with their badges and discussed how impressed she is with all the Prefects so far. All Buddies also received their badges. We are very proud to wear these and represent our school!

Our Pupil Leadership Team was also announced this week.
Head Boy: Shay Hamilton
Deputy Head Boy: Ross Fairley

Head Girl: Grace Guest
Deputy Head Girl: Isabel Drago Ferrante

The team met with the Parent Council on Monday evening and they also had the opportunity to give their first tour of the school to visitors in the school on Thursday. Congratulations!

We have been very busy this week running our House Captain Campaigns. This has involved making posters and rosettes, creating slogans and logos as well as working together in small teams. The candidates are very excited about presenting to the houses next Friday!

We worked in our Literacy Circle groups to discuss our new novels and our Literacy Circle homework is due next Wednesday.

We are very proud of Kayleigh Patterson who was a national finalist for her Inspire Aspire entry. Well done!

We hope you all have a lovely long weekend.

P7b and Miss Brown.

Countdown number challenge in P7b

P7b were given a ‘Countdown’ style challenge as part of our mental maths today. We were given a target total and 6 numbers, we could only use each number once. We explored different approaches and came very close to the target total.

Can anyone help us or come up with a solution?

Target total: 598

100 50 25 4 9 10

-Remember each number can only be used once.
-You can use any operation e.g addition, subtraction, multiplication or division.

Hi from P7b!

First of all we would like to say congratulations to our candidates for Head Boy and Girl who have their interviews today. We also want to say well done to everyone who applied and completed such excellent application forms. Head Boy, Head Girl and Deputies will be announced next week.

Well done to all pupils who have been appointed as Prefects. Prefect duties will begin next week.

This week we have continued to help and support our P1 buddies and have enjoyed getting to know them better.

To celebrate Roald Dahl day next week we voted for Danny Champion of the World to be read as our class novel. We are really enjoying the novel so far.

In writing we have been working on persuasive speeches and thinking about what we would do to improve the school. We have tried hard to use repetition, persuasive language and exaggeration.

In music with Ms MacDonald P7b have been working on a song with a growth mindset theme. We are enjoying being creative and applying our musical talents with some help from Gregor, Scott and their guitars!

In maths we have been exploring place value, what it means and how we can use it. We will continue working on this as well as developing our skills in rounding next week. As part of problem solving we have explored number patterns and sequences and discussed the rule the sequence follows.

Have a great weekend and we will post another update next Friday.

Miss Brown and P7

It has been a busy week in P7b…

It has been a really busy but exciting week. A very important role in P7 is being a buddy to the new P1 pupils. As part of this we have created and edited a video and made posters and leaflets to help share our knowledge with the school. We want to ensure we are quality buddies!

In PE with Mr Muldoon we completed the beep test and are going to be working really hard to improve our fitness this term.

In class we have been working on putting together our class charter. This has involved deciding on articles as well as teacher and pupil agreements to ensure everyone respects these rights. We completed designs and voted for our favourite one. Kyle, Rowan, Lochlan and Finlay’s wonderful monopoly design won!

It has been a busy week completing application forms at home. To help us with this process we have reflected on our skills and qualities and thought about what positions we would like to apply for.

It has been really enjoyable spending lots of time with our P1 buddies. It is great to see them settling in so well and helping them to become more independent.

Have a great weekend, from P7b.

Exciting times in P7!

Primary 7 pupils are currently completing application forms to put themselves forward for roles within the school. They have been exploring their skills and qualities to help them with the process.

Here is the application form for any P7 pupils who would like to use an electronic version.

Application form – Side 1

Application form – Side 2

P7 will keep you up to date on their exciting journey over the next few weeks!

Maths in P7

Wow! We cannot believe that the P7 pupils are in their last term at Williamston Primary school! We have been very busy in maths.

P7 have been exploring long division and dividing a 3 or 4 digit number by a 2 digit number with and without remainders. They have been really challenging themselves and using a fun strategy to help…
Does – Divide
McDonalds – Multiply
Sell – Subtract
Cheese – Check
Burgers – Bring down

This process supports us with long division and ensures we do not miss a crucial step. It would be great if P7 could keep practising this at home too.

P7 have also been thinking about important our times tables are in helping us to divide and thinking about the stations in each times table eg. the 5 times table: 5, 10, 15, 20 etc…

This term P7 will be focusing on…

Time – working with 12 and 24 hour time, using timetables, exploring time zones, Exploring the link between speed, distance and time.

Shape – properties of 2D/3D shape.

Money – budgets, money challenges.

Mental agility: strategies for quick and effective addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.

The link between decimals, percentages and factions e.g 50% = 0.5 = ½

It would be great if you could support your child with these concepts at home. Children will be given maths homework each week to consolidate what we are working on in class. Please also see your child’s homework grid for a list maths websites and games.

Many thanks, S Brown and K Carral

Basketball success!

A huge congratulations to our basketball team who came second place in the school basketball tournament. (Only beaten by 1 point!)

We also had Joshua Harvey getting most improved player and Jenni Torrance was voted, by all the coaches, as Player of the Year.

We are very proud of you all!

P7 rock!

Mrs Carral and Miss Brown just want to say a HUGE well done to all pupils in P7! We are so proud of every single of one of you. You have all worked so incredibly hard on learning lines, singing songs, acting with expression, controlling lights, sound and microphones and creating fabulous backdrops… the list is endless! You put on such a wonderful show and we know that your families loved every second of your performances!

Thank you to all parents and carers for all your support and lovely comments.

Enjoy your holidays – rest and relax! Come back refreshed and ready for your final term at Williamston!
