Primary 1 – Class Talks

C L A S S    T A L K S    –    M Y    F A V O U R I T E    F A I R Y T A L E

Well done to our next group of children who presented their Class Talks this week.  This term we are talking about our favourite fairytale.  This is an excellent opportunity to develop children’s talking and listening skills and we appreciate parent’s support with this task.

Ailsa – I liked making my poster.  I like Rumpelstiltskin.  I brought in the book too.

Lucy – I did a poster of Rapunzel and spoke about it.  Everyone liked it.

Charlotte – I liked talking and everyone listened,  I made a poster for it.

Mammal tracking in P2

P2 are learning about day and night in topic at the moment. We decided to look at what animals have been around the school during those times. We set up some mammal tunnels to track what has been around the school and at Miss Lawton’s house. After a few attempts we have some tracks!

Using an ID sheet we think the bigger prints are cats or maybe a hedgehog and the smaller prints being a weasel or a mouse. Thank you to the Easter Breich wood community group for letting us borrow the mammal tunnels we have loved exploring what visits the school.

Tay Class Health Week Fun

Last week was ‘Health Week’ in school.   The Health Committee worked hard to organise lots of activities so thank you very much to them for this.

Tay Class enjoyed songs and games about healthy food.  We absolutely loved the ‘Smoothie Bike’.  ‘H’ helped chop up some fruit and then most children took turns to add in the fruit and the juice.  Most of us took turn to pedal the bike to make the blender work.  The final result was some delicious healthy smoothie which some of us tried.  ‘A’ really enjoyed his and drank it all.  Great team effort Tay Class!

Tay Class had a very different PE time:  there were sensory stations set up in the hall.  Many of us loved the bubbles and the tent with lights and music.  There was a sensory path to walk over and a foot spa full of orbeez- which ‘L’ especially enjoyed.  We also cleaned the ‘germs’ off the hands and explored the touch and feel tray.

We really enjoyed using the bubble machines in class too.

Gardening Club

What a great week at Gardening club!

We worked in groups to tackle different jobs that we needed to do! First up was weeding in-between the flowers and in the plant beds. Next was planting our fruit trees, two apple trees and two pear trees, they have been planted along the path on the bus exit from the playground. The next group worked on emptying out old planters from around the back of the school and moving them into the garden, once in the garden they were refilled and we planted Rhubarb and Leeks. Our final job was to water all the plants and put away all our equipment.

Everyone worked super hard and we enjoyed a cool glass of juice and a biscuit before heading home!

Health Week in Primary 3!

Primary 3 have had the most amazing week! A massive thank you to our Health and Wellbeing team for organising a fantastic week which was packed with lots of fun activities.

On Tuesday, we participated in classroom yoga, went for a walk in our local community, played handball and judo. We made smoothies and watched the Staff V Pupils netball with ice poles, in the wonderful sun.

On Wednesday, Primary 3 had P.E with Mr Boles and learned more about mindfulness.

On Thursday, we went to One Mind Martial Arts and had a great time. We participated in exercise to music, we danced and made Fruit Kebabs. Then, a very interesting football player came in to tell us all about her job.

Finally, on Friday we played in our local park, attended a mini first aid course and exercised in the kick pitch to finish off the day!

Heath Week in Primary 4

What an amazing week packed full of activities we have had! We have completed activities on keeping our body and minds healthy. Primary 4 would like to thank the Health committee for their hard work, it has been lots of fun and lots of us have been exhausted.

Kicked off our week with Destination Judo, Bowling up at the bowling club, Handball and then outdoor learning. We finished the day of watching the teacher v’s pupils netball game! It was good to see the adults join in 😀

On Wednesday  we started with making smoothies on the smoothie bike! We picked the fruit and juice we anted in our smoothies, copped them then jumped on the bike to mix it up. We then had a mindfulness session and PE. To finish off we did bead making in class, this was another mindfulness activity as it took a lot of focus. We were all very proud of the Rosary beads that we made.

On Thursday we started learning some music for our Shrek show before we started our activities.  We had PE with Mrs McMaster outside and then we walked up to One Mind Martial Arts, although some of us were apprehensive to start with we all joined it, it was lots of fun. Next up was exercise to music followed by SKM Dance. To finish our day we had a talk with female footballer and referee Nicole. We all found this very interesting and enjoyed getting to hold referee flags and cards as well as look at all her other kit!

Ladt but not least, Friday. We started the morning making fresh fruit kebabs, we chopped and peeled the fruit before sticking it on and enjoying it😋 We then had a fitness session outside followed by learning some first aid. To finish the day we enjoyed Fun 31 because we all have the right to play!

It has been a very busy week, we hope you like some of our action shots!

Health week in P2

What a busy week we have had!

We have all taken part in many activities this week. On Tuesday we had smoothies, outdoor learning and Judo which we really enjoyed. On Wednesday we played games with Mr Boles, learned about mindfulness and planted trees when the heavy rain started. On Thursday we had martial arts – which we loved, exercise to music which was exhausting, dance and we had a referee come in and speak to us. Today we made our fruit kebabs, took part in fitness, sensory circuits and had first aid to finish off our fantastic week. We have all loved taking part in the activities and thank you to everyone who came along to lead us in them.

Health Week in Primary 5

Well, what a busy week we’ve all had and it has been fantastic! A Big thank you to all the organisations that have participated and our Health & Wellbeing team for organising such a great, fun filled week 🙂

Our week started with Handball, Judo and a visit to Polbeth Bowling Club.  The sunshine was lovely and the walk from school to the bowling club was a lovely rest in between activities.

We then started our afternoon on the Smoothie Bike; we worked in groups, prepped our fruit and had to cycle to blend all the ingredients together. It was then time to watch the P6/P7’s vs The Teachers at Netball.

Wednesday morning started with PE with Mrs McMaster before going out to the back playground to plant trees. The team work P5 showed when completing this activity was amazing! Then we had sports with Mr Boles and he introduced us to two new games that we’re going to keep playing – Jedi Dodgeball and Pirate Ships!

Since Sports Day has been postponed due to the weather we spent out rainy Wednesday afternoon designing and creating Shrek props for the summer show.

Thursday was another very busy day with a Vital team workout, Martial Arts and SMK Dance. It was a very tiring morning!

And our Thursday finished with a lovely class talk with Nicole Lind, who plays football for Linlithgow Rose. The children were very respectful, asked great questions and showed so much interest in what she was telling everyone. Some children even got to try on her kits and play with her ‘red and yellow’ cards.

Today was our last day of Health Week so we started it off with healthy fruit kebabs for our breakfast! We had mango, pineapple, strawberries, blueberries, grapes, melon, watermelon, plums and kiwis. Everyone was challenged to try a new fruit they hadn’t had before and so many of the children tried – big well done!

We then finished off our morning with some First Aid training.

What a great week and massive well done to all of the children trying new activities!! You have all done so well and deserve a lovely, chilled weekend!

See you all on Monday!

P6 go back to school in 1897…

This week P6 went back in time to 1897 to take our lessons in a Victorian classroom and to see what life was like during Queen Victoria’s reign. On arrival we changed into our school uniform – a white frilly smock for the girls and shirts and waistcoats for the boys. Sitting the girls away from the boys, began our work on the 3 Rs – reading, writing and ‘rithmetic!

We did our ‘rithmetic test on our chalk boards with a chalk board pen. This was hard to read and a little scratchy, but they won’t dry up like whiteboard pens! Next we did choral reading from the whiteboard. Finally we did our handwriting using an inkwell and fountain pen with blotting paper.

For those who were not completely silent with arms folded and eyes facing front, there was a selection of punishments awaiting them. Firstly was the stoop at the front, where you could sit with shame for as long as the teacher wanted you to. Next there was the fidget board that you had to wear under your arms to stop you from moving in your seat. For the left handers, there was the finger stocks which you would put your fingers in and tie it to the back of your uniform to stop you from using your left hand. Finally there was the strap or cane, from which you could receive ‘six of the best’! You could be punished for minor things such as talking, not sitting up straight, moving in your chair, not having your feet flat on the floor, using your left hand or not saying ‘sir’ or ‘miss’ after speaking to the teacher!

Talking partners or group work was completely discouraged! It was fun for us but we all agreed it would not be fun all day long!

After our lessons we enjoyed the museum where we learned about many Victorian household items, artefacts and ways of life that are so different to how we live today. We got to try out  and learn about mangles, bed pans, irons, shoe dolls, hair curlers and more! We all agreed it was  really interesting and fun class trip! However we all left feeling  very privileged to be living in the 21st Century!
