P2 Update 10.5.24

It was bittersweet week in P2 as we said goodbye to one of our friends.  We will miss her terribly but she has an exciting new chapter ahead of her.  We had a little party with party food, party games and a little dance off.  Can you spot any P7s sneaking in for a dance?

This little gang caught my eye during teeth brushing time.  Smile!

Have a great weekend!

Happy Easter from P2

We have enjoyed the final week of fundraising activities.  Spot the super serious faces at our Bunny Bingo!  Well done to Jorja for scooping up not one, but two prizes!

We enjoyed the range of talents on display at St. Mary’s got Talent.  Well done to all the brave contestants.

Happy Easter! Stay safe and see you in two weeks.

P2 Update 22.3.24

A wee couscous salad was created in health and wellbeing this week.  The chopping skills on display were fantastic.  We hope you enjoyed our creation!  We have been covering the following outcomes in the curriculum:

I enjoy eating a diversity of foods in a range of social situations.  HWB 1-29a

By investigating the range of foods available I can discuss how they contribute to a healthy diet.  HWB 1-30a

I experience a sense of enjoyment and achievement when preparing simple healthy foods and drinks.  HWB 1-30b

I am becoming more aware of how cleanliness, hygiene and safety can affect health and wellbeing and I apply this knowledge in my everyday routines such as taking care of my teeth.  HWB 1-33a

P2 Update 15.3.24

Another week in folks.  It has been a busy one!  Today we were learning about the different ways in which land is used in Scotland and how important each of these areas are.  We also recreated some of them using a variety of materials.  We loved getting creative.

We also spent a wonderful afternoon with Gary from the Singing Kettle.  He was fantastic and we loved every minute.

Just a few pics from last week’s World book day and Sharing the learning…

Have a great weekend.

P2 Update 1.3.24

How can it possibly be March?  The daffodils are appearing, the nights are lighter but the temperature has not changed just yet!

P2 have been learning about their local area on a map in connection to our Katie Morag project.  We have compared homes on the Scottish Islands to our homes in Polbeth and the surrounding areas and we have explored both areas on a map.  On a map of our local area:

  • Macie identified St Mary’s.
  • Riley identified the football field.
  • Grace identified the fire station.
  • Lucy identified the vets.

Most were able to track their way home on the map thinking about the directions they took on their journey.

Elsewhere, standard of uniform and behaviour was impeccable today for our Lenten Mass with Father Marcin and St Thomas’s school.  Absolute perfection and almost brought a tear to their teacher’s eye!

Oonagh and Jorja are celebrating special birthdays this weekend so it is party, party, party for the next few days!

Competition has been fierce during our maths games with Buzz being a particular favourite.  Counting up in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s this week with a little support on the smart board has become extra competitive.

Finally, this smiley wee face has become a fully fledged member of the rainbows and is over the moon.  Congratulations!

P2 Update 26.1.24

It has been a wonderful week in P2.

We enjoyed some chocolate to celebrate the birthday of someone very special, and no, it wasn’t Rabbie Burns!  Happy birthday to our wonderful Mrs Topping!

We also celebrated Burns day by making our own shortbread.  No pictures were taken during the production process I’m afraid as everyone was covered head to toe in flour and butter but it was all worth it in the end!  It was delicious.

We thoroughly enjoyed our fresh fruit box that was kindly delivered by the St Mary’s health and wellbeing committee on Monday.  There has been a lot of eating this week!

We are now learning about shape in maths and have enjoyed exploring the properties of 2d and 3d shape and finding them in our environment.

Have a great weekend everyone and we will see you next week.

P2 Update 19.1.24

It has been a whirl wind start to 2024 in P2.  We have been learning about numbers up to 20 and exploring different ways in which we can complete addition and subtraction calculations.

We used 10 frames which helped us to split numbers in order to make 10 first.  This took a bit of practise to begin with but confidence was high by the end of the week.  We also used number lines and rekenreks to support our mental numeracy skills.

We concluded our weather topic by looking at how to use a thermometer and linking them to the numbers we see on the weather.  We now know which numbers on the map require a coat, and which require sun cream!   We looked at different cloud formations and recreated them using a variety of materials.  The stratus cloud was our favourite.  It is pale grey and covers the whole sky and it was very messy to make!

Have a great weekend everyone and we will see you next week.

Merry Christmas P2!

We’ve had lots of fun these last few days making Christmas cards, wrapping paper and playing around with some bright green pastels to create a rather familiar Christmassy hand!

Have a wonderful Christmas, thank you for your support and we are looking forward to doing it all again in January.

A baby is born… P2 15.12.23

Primary 2 were a mixture of excited and terrified this morning for the St Mary’s annual nativity.  I think we can all agree that they were fabulous and should be very proud of themselves.  We hope you enjoyed it.

Earlier in the week, we also enjoyed our Christmas dinner.  Lilly eating a Brussel sprout was definitely the highlight of the week!

We enjoyed a bit of down time as well with a few new classroom toys.

Don’t worry grown ups, there was still plenty of maths and literacy!

Have a great weekend.  One week to go!
