Primary 1

In ย Primary one this week we have been learning all about firework ๐ŸŽ† safety. We used bonfire ๐Ÿ”ฅ night to inspire our writing for the week, we talked lots about what fireworks look, sound and smell like. After our discussions we drew pictures of fireworks and wrote a sentence.

We also used fireworks to inspire our art work this week, we created beautiful fireworks in the night sky art using paint and forks!

During RE ๐Ÿ™ we learned all about All Saints and All Soulsโ€™ Day. We found it very interesting learning about different saints and how God calls us all to be good.

Everyone in class voted to change a play area to a pizza shop! We made shop posters and decided how much we would charge people for our pizzas. We also had to make pizza dough and the toppings for the pizzas. ๐Ÿ• We have had lots of fun making and selling pizzas this week.

For outdoor learning this week we enjoyed some time in the outdoor classroom, we built towers and bridges together as well as having time to explore other toys.

On Friday we celebrated mass together with the whole school and members of the parish. We were all very respectful during the mass.

A Spooktacular Week in Primary 1

Primary 1 kicked of the week with potion making, mixing, smelling and feeling different sents and textures to make our own spooky potions.

In art, inspired by the book โ€œSpiderโ€ we learned lots of spider facts and made spider ๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ pictures with stamps we made.

On Wednesday we participated in our first pupil voice committee groups, we all enjoyed working with different groups of children from across the whole school.

At our outdoor learning session this week we walked up to the local woodland area and made wands from nature.

During the week some of us enjoyed making pumpkin ๐ŸŽƒ stamp pictures using apples ๐ŸŽ.

Keeping with the Halloween ๐ŸŽƒ theme we used it for our science ๐Ÿงช we turned a solid to liquid and back to solid making a spooky ๐Ÿ‘ป jelly potion, we are looking forward to eating them .

On Friday we had a Halloween ๐ŸŽƒ party. We played lots of games, danced, and had a costume competition, it was lots of fun. Well done to everyone who took part, everyone looked very scary .

Last week of term in Primary 1

Another busy learning week in Primary 1!
To start the week we read the story Pumpkin ๐ŸŽƒ Soup, this inspired us to make our own pumpkin soup in our tuff tray. We had lost of fun scooping out the pumpkins and mixing them with lentils and water. Lots of skills used and plenty of imagination ๐Ÿ’ญ

For art this week we used leaves ๐Ÿ we collected to make leaf ๐Ÿ animals and bugs, we are very proud of how they have turned out.

During literacy, Read Write Inc, we have been practicing partner practice reading ๐Ÿ“– ย we are all doing very well at reading, blending our sounds together and working with partners.

During outdoor learning we walked to the local park, we all had lots of fun climbing and playing with our friends.

On Friday we were very respectful during assembly where we found out who our P7 house captains are, we were excited to find out if the people we voted for won .

Primary 1

In class we have been working on motor skills, we used a hammer to hammer in nails to decorate a pumpkin. ๐ŸŽƒ We all found this lots of fun, we had to talk about how to stay safe with tools, how to be good at turn taking and how to be creative.

With our autumn ๐Ÿ‚ leaves we created leaf monster puppets, we had lots of fun creating these then using them to play.

In number work we have been developing skills using Building Thinking Classrooms. We work in random groups to solve a problem together. We all love collaborative learning. We use โ€œ thinking hatsโ€ to help us identify the problem, the information that we have, thinking time, how it makes us feel and how we can be creative.

In RE we have been learning why Mary is special to the church and that October. On Friday we joined the whole school in celebrating Mass.

During outdoor learning this week we created pumpkin ๐ŸŽƒ designs with our handprints.

We had a very important job of voting for new house captains on Friday, we listened to the Primary 7โ€™s tell us why they would be good captains. After thinking about it we went up to the Primary 7 room to vote.

Primary 1 News

We started the week off in Primary one learning about Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ and talking about the signs of autumn.
To create autumn leaves ๐Ÿ we used sponges to paint and create texture, after waiting on them drying we turned them into leaf self portraits.

After collecting materials outside we used them to make our names with nature.

Primary 1 had lots of fun harvesting vegetables from the school ๐Ÿช garden. We spent time washing them to make sure all the dirt was off them then wee carefully used tools to peel and chop the vegetables. The boys and girls decided they would like to make soup with the vegetables so on Thursday we made soup ๐Ÿฅฃ, we all had the choice to eat the soup and we buttered some bread to go with it. Some of us didnโ€™t want to eat it and some of us had two bowls ๐Ÿ˜‹

Staying in the garden we planted bulbs for next spring, we had to be very careful that we planted them correctly so they can grow up to the sun in the springtime ย ๐ŸŒผ We are looking forward to watching them grow.

Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ start in Primary 1

Primary 1 have been learning that the season has now changed to Autumn ๐Ÿ‚. We talked about the changes we can see ๐Ÿ‘€ hear ๐Ÿ‘‚ and smell ๐Ÿ‘ƒ as the weather gets colder.

For outdoor learning we had a lovely walk up to a local woodland area where we explored the trees ๐ŸŒณ and shrubs. We talked about staying safe in a different area and had lots of fun.

We are all doing very well in progressing through our sounds and are starting to blend sounds together to make words. The more we practice these the easier it will be to read and write. All children have been sent home with a set of sounds.

On Friday we enjoyed the โ€œBig Breakfastโ€ ย and โ€œSharing Our Learning โ€œ. Tasting different food at breakfast club with our friends and family . After breakfast it was great to show the adults our amazing work in class.

Primary 1

Primary have been thinking about what is in our circle of control. We worked together to put things into our circle of control and what we canโ€™t control, there were lots discussions about this and lots of thinking points.

We have also been using our Building Thinking Classrooms time to increase our meta skills and knowledge. Working together in random groups we have to solve a problem, working it out together. We all enjoy working with our friends.

At outdoor learning this week we were practicing being safe outside the school grounds. We walked to our local park, being very careful walking along side the road. Once at the part we worked on lots of silks, climbing, balancing, sharing, taking turns all while having lots of fun.

We have also been working on developing our critical thinking and problem solving skills in the outdoor classroom, building towers and obstacle courses.

Primary 1

This week as we are a Eco school it was our first turn at litter picking to keep our playground clean.

At outdoor learning we went on a bird scavenger hunt. We are learning to identify different birds and we had lots of fun doing this.

We are all enjoying writing โœ๏ธ and have been doing this independently using free play time as well.

Primary 1 are becoming very confident at recognising, counting, making and writing numbers.

Primary 1 in week 4

Wow another busy week in Primary 1.

in outdoor learning this week we worked with Miss Nelson to create clay snails. We talk about if we had saw them before, where we could find them and what they looked like before making our very own snails.

In number work we are focusing on forming our numbers as well as counting and making numbers. We have enjoyed playing lots of maths games.

We have been learning all about families, that all families are different and equally special. Everyone enjoyed talking about their own family and we made beautiful representations of our families for the class wall.

On Friday we made slime, this was lots of fun ๐Ÿคฉ We ย decided that is would be a good place for some dinosaurs ๐Ÿฆ• to live.

Week Three in Primary 1

Another amazing week completed in Primary 1๐Ÿ˜Š Miss Stenhouse is very proud of all the children and their amazing work!

Primary 1 have been learning about how to be a good leader through Leader in Me. This week we discussed how to be proactive and how this connects to our school values. We will be learning all 7 habits of happy kids through Leader in Me and each week someone will be selected for a class certificate.

To start with we created our own Leader in Me tree for our classroom to remind us that we can all be leaders. We will be working on Stop โœ‹ Think ๐Ÿ’ญ and make Good Choices๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

We have been creating a charter for our outdoor learning and exploring the outdoor learning areas at the school. We used our hand prints to sign our Outdoor Learning Charter.

At the Trim Trail we were working on our balance and coordination skills.

In PE we have been exploring different equipment that we will be using. This week we have forced on throwing and catching.
