Happy New Year in Ness Class

The New Year got off to a brilliant start this week in Ness. Getting back into our routines helped focus our minds back to enjoying time with our learning friends.

In reading, we have been exploring non fiction texts. In writing, we have been focusing on New Year Resolutions and presentation. Our Number learning is multiplying by 2 and 3 this week. We are also linking this to repeated addition allowing us to go beyond 2×12 and 3×12.

The highlight of our week was baking today. Our class chose Shortbread biscuits and we look forward to tasting them tomorrow.

Enjoy the pictures below.

A Fabulous Week in Ness

The new term is going very well in Ness Class. Everyone has settled in and the learning is progressing well.

This week, we have been reading together every day to improve our reading fluency.

Our number learning has been Place Value and some of us are very good at identifying number up to 1 million!

Science has been the highlight of our week, where we have explored Static Electricity- a hair raising experiment for most!

Some of our highlights are in the pictures below!

Saving The Oceans- A Ness Class Project

Our pupils have been learning about the Oceans of our World. A fact we found interesting was that we have dumped over 5 Trillions of pieces of plastic in our oceans. The pupils of Ness found this very sad and decided to find out how much plastic pollution we had around our school grounds. We collected the litter and decided to make a giant poster with it. We will be sharing our research and our Pollution Poster with the rest of the school. Enjoy our pictures!

Working together in Ness Class

Teamwork was the theme of the week in Ness Class. We were all helping each other learn during reading, number and playing.

In Reading, some of us wanted to help read our Book Of The Week. Laura, Dominic, Hunter and Lochlan were very keen to ‘be teacher’ and teach the book to the class.

In number, we have been learning about Fractions. We used a big bag of sweets to help our understanding about what a fraction is. Everyone helped share out our 1 Big Bag into tenths. Some of us even understood sharing the small bags into thirteenths. Mr Elliott, Mrs Mains and Mrs Hill were absolutely amazed at our knowledge.

Finally, we have a lovely playtime today in the sun. Hunter, Dominic, Nathan and Laura decided to play their own game of Duck-Duck-Go! Or as it’s known in our class: Quack-Quack-Run!

Enjoy our pictures 🙂

Welcome Back Ness Class

It was great for everyone to be back in Ness Class this week. We all had great breaks: some of us had a birthday, some of us went to London, some went to Oban, some had day trips but we all enjoyed a good rest. This was why we were ready to get back to learning and having fun in class this week. Our new Topic is Under the Ocean and in Science we are learning about Hot and Cold. In number, we are looking at division and fractions and in literacy our big focus is learning how to write to persuade! Routines were re-established very quickly and we are already excited about the remainder of this term. Enjoy some of the highlights of our week below!

Half Term Update- Ness Class

A fabulous end to a busy term in Ness Class. We have really enjoyed our learning with many highlights to share. Our focus on Scotland and Burns led to many exciting learning opportunities and amazing Food Technology sessions. In Numeracy we have been very successful developing our strategies for multiplying- we really like grouping our numbers to help us count on! This will be a good strategy to help in our next learning block which will focus on Division and Fractions. We have also been using our clocks to tell the time. In Literacy, we are reading every day. Mrs Mains and Mrs Hill are really pushing our Reading Skills through Read, Write, Inc. We have also been focusing on Poetry and writing a Biography  about Rabbie Burns. In Health and Wellbeing, we are developing our core strength during Class Yoga, and Mrs McMaster has been putting us through our paces within team games and racquet skills. Each week provides us with different learning opportunities where our pupils lead the learning by planning mini-topics using our Floor book. Enjoy a sample of our learning in pictures below.

Numeracy Mini-Champions

Well done to our Numeracy Mini Champions who met on Teams with Mini Champions from schools across West Lothian. We were able to chat to each school and learn about what other schools do to improve Maths learning in their schools. We also shared the things we do in our school to make Maths fun and easier for all. Here are some of the things we shared:

Well done to Keira (P6R), Hope (P5) and Katie (P5) who represented our school very well. Keep your eyes peeled for our next initiative.
