P1B Post

Week Beginning 21.10.19

P1B highlights:

Leah – I liked making pasta in the mud kitchen for Paige.

Millie – My favourite part was learning about God making the world in 7 days.

Markuss – I like teaching P2 and P3 the actions to the Hail Mary prayer at assembly today.

Meave – Using the soft pastels was my favourite thing.

Mrs Devlin: Today I had a good old chuckle to myself talking to the kids about Ireland.  During news time I told them that my sister will be visiting from Ireland next weekend.  Matteo made me laugh until I cried when he said, “They talk funny in Ireland.  That is why you say Ogilvie Brrrrrrr.”  This then led to the children trying to teach me the “correct” way to say bear.  I literally had tears running down my face it was so funny.  Thank you Matteo for the laughs.

P3B Learning Highlights 25/10/19

This week in P3B we have been learning about the layers of the rainforest and look forward to continuing this next week. We learned about the Joyful Mysteries and created a comic strip describing them. In maths this week we became pirates and used our new knowledge of coordinates to make treasure maps. We have been joying having some time each Friday to write our own stories in our Free Writing jotters. On Friday we were challenged to make a Halloween themed shooter toy. We had to work to help each other be successful.

Some highlights:

“I enjoyed making the Halloween shooters. It was a hard challenge. I had fun.” – Declan

“I liked writing in my free writing Friday jotter. It makes me think BIG. I like thinking BIG.” – Jayden

“I liked doing the pirate hats, it was lots of fun and art. We made maps using our coordinates” – Vivien

“I like the spin to win game and give the dog a bone. In spin to win you try and make the biggest number you can. In give the dog a bone you have to get 10 bones in a time limit. You get a bone by finding the correct number in a hundred square.” Aditya

P3A Learning Highlights Week Beginning 21st October 2019

This week we have been learning about animals in the Rainforest. We were pretending to be Howler Monkeys!  We have also been learning about adding and taking away with 2 digit numbers and saying all our strategies. In PE we had a football coach to work with us.

Here are some of our learning highlights from this week.

Marriyah – I liked when we were drawing the animals from the Rainforest.  It helped me think about the layers of the Rainforest.

Grant – I liked drawing a snake.  I used the oil pastels and my hands didn’t get messy.

Aoife – I liked doing the football. I learned different exercises for listening.

Joshua – I liked when I drew my tree frog and I got to go to show Mr McGurn and P7b.  I got theee stickers.

Emily – I tried my best to draw the bird with the oil pastels.  I did a good job.

Edin – I really liked to draw my snake.

Miss Stebbing – I was very proud of the whole class when they were drawing their Rainforest animals because everyone concentrated and tried their best.  No one gave up or said “I can’t do this!”

P4a Learning Highlights

Here is some information about what we got up to before the October holidays.

Curriculum areas and subjects

In Handwriting, we were practising writing e, l, b and h. The lesson helps us to improve our handwriting.

In Maths, we were learning about 3D objects. We learnt the names of the 3D objects. We also did some challenges. The first challenge was to use the nets of 3D objects to create the shapes. The second was to make 3D objects out of straws and plasticine. The last one was to make 3D objects out of construction toys. It was a bit tricky but it was fun!

Interdisciplinary learning

We were learning about needs and wants. We were cutting and sticking all the things we need, e.g., education, clothes, shelter and clean water, on one page and things we want on the other, e.g., bikes and designer clothes.

The ethos and life of the school

Emily- ‘I have enjoyed our ERIC time. In the morning, we get to read a book to help us calm down so we are ready to learn.’

Alessio- ‘We won the playground reward which meant we got to play outside before break time. We got to play football, listen and dance to songs and play with the toy box.’

Riley- ‘I got to play football and I scored 10 goals! The score was 10-2.’

Opportunities for personal achievement

Nellie- ‘I am proud of my picture I drew when we were making a friendship poster.’

Lewis- ‘I am proud of my effort when rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100.’

Zahra- ‘I am proud of us winning the playground reward and dancing to the Macarena.’

Millan- ‘I am proud of my maths because I am starting to get better at rounding to the nearest 100.’

P3A Learning Highlights (w/b 7th October)

This week in maths we have been learning about the greater than, less than, equal and not equal to symbols.  Ask us all about these!  We have been doing comprehension and the story was about a birthday present.  In topic we were making Rainforest leaves and we learned the names of the four layers. They are the emergent layer, the canopy layer, the understory layer and the forest floor.

Here are some of our individual learning highlights from this week.

Marriyah – We learned about the Joyful Mysteries in RE.

Daisy – I liked when we made the leaves.

Sylvia – I liked when we made the leaves.  I used pink and blue to make mine.

Olivier – I liked doing the numbers in maths.

Josh – I liked when we were learning the alphabet in Spanish. It was quite tricky.

Aoife – I liked when we sang the Continents song again to help us remember.

Sam – I liked when we did the leaves.  We had to pay really close attention to the instructions.

Miss Stebbing – I was very proud of P3A’s writing this week. They remembered the main details of the How to be a Viking story and use great vocabulary in their work! Well done everyone.

P6A Earthquake Proof buildings

This week P6A used jelly beans, toothpicks and marshmallows and we built structures to see if they could hold while we shook the table.  This was to see if the structure was strong enough to hold itself and we shook the table so it was like an earthquake.

All of the structures have successfully stood up without falling.  Primary 6A have shown they are fantastic architects!

P6B design earthquake proof buildings .

Primary 6 designed earthquake proof buildings as part of our Extreme Earth topic. We worked in pairs to create a design brief before building our models. The buildings had to be at least 30cm high and withstand a 30 second shake test !¬ We had great fun and everyone enjoyed working as part of a team.
