St John Ogilvie Primary School

Hello special SJO family!  Your children have been settling well back into school and have enjoyed being in their new classroom with their friends again.  We welcome 4 P1s to our class also!  We have been getting used to our new routines and have been washing our hands regularly to keep safe.  Here are a few things your children enjoyed doing this week:

Matteo liked when his table won the most treasure today!  On the first day of school we heard a story called ‘Jake’s First Day’.  Jake’s teacher gave the children a treasure chest and the children counted gold coins.  We decided we wanted to do that too!  Each group of tables have a sparkly treasure chest and the children earn gold coins as a reward for following our ‘ready, respectful, safe’ school rules.  We have seen much kindness in P2/1 this week!

Freya has enjoyed our lessons this week during Religion time.  We have been revisiting the ‘Our Father’ prayer and have been focusing on the meaning of the words: ‘Our Father who art in Heaven’ (Hello God in Heaven, we want to say hello), ‘Give us this day our daily bread’ (Please give us enough to eat today God and thank you for this food), ‘Forgive us our trespasses’ (Please forgive us God when we do the wrong thing and make you sad) and ‘Lead us not into temptation’ (Please help us to be good Father and please you).

Aaeryn-Leigh loved hearing the story ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’.  We heard this story each day this week and by the end of the week we felt we were the author Julia Donaldson because we knew it so well!  We could retell the story and used the rhyming words to help us remember what came next.  We carried out lots of activities such as making our own crown, designing new clothes for the Giant, creating our own character who had a problem and a matching activity.  We have been busy bees!

Emily liked playing Tag outside during playtime with her friends.  As part of our learning about the word ‘Included’, the children made up their own game with a partner and taught it to the class.  That means that next time they are playing outside, they will have ideas for new games they can play together were everyone feels included and welcome to join in.

We have had a very busy week back at school.  This week have been practising our spelling and reading our common words.  We made ice creams all about us.  We have practised our numbers and been in 2’s and 20’s.

For RE this week we listened to a story from the bible about The Good Shepherd who had lost one of his sheep.  We have been thinking about how we all need to look after each other.   On our wellbeing Wednesday we learned how to control our breathing and how professor pinwheel can help us remember.

We are looking forward to learning joined-up handwriting this year and bigger numbers and cant wait to do more learning next week.

We have settled well into P1 and we are learning lots of new routines.  Miss Stebbing is very impressed with how quickly we have remembered where to put our water bottles, snacks, bags and jackets.  This week we have been doing lots of drawing, colouring in and playing.  We are making new friends and helping each other.  We read a lovely story about how our class is a family.  Here is a link to the story for you.

Good Morning P3B

I hope you enjoyed being in school yesterday.  It was lovely to see all your smiling faces after such a long time.  Remember that your task for today is to make a poster showing our school rules of Ready, Respectful and Safe.  We talked yesterday about what these mean and how we can show them in class.  Use lots of colour and pictures as well as words.

I look forward to seeing them tomorrow.

Welcome back , boys and girls! 😃

We hope you have had a great Summer holiday, although things have been quite different to what they usually are.

Mrs Lea is really looking forward to meeting her new class and Mrs Valente is also looking forward to seeing you all again.

When we come back to school, it is important that we remember how to be Ready, Respectful and Safe so your task for today will be to write a few sentences describing what each word means to you and illustrate this with your amazing drawings!

If you are able to complete this work, it would be great if you could bring it with you to the class, so that it can be shared with others. Please complete the task on a piece of A4 or A5 paper.

Don’t worry if you are unable to complete this task since we understand that your families/carers may have other plans for your final day of the holidays.😊

Hello Primary 6,

We are all very excited to see you back in school tomorrow and we hope you have enjoyed lots of family time over the summer break.

Health & Wellbeing:

Today, we would like you to start thinking about our school rules before we see you on Thursday.  Can you think about how Ready, Respectful and Safe are going to look like in Primary 6?  What your new responsibilities might be and how you are going to show how you are ready to take on new challenges and fulfil your potential.

Make sure you come in with at least two ideas for each of Ready, Respectful, Safe (a few folk might have the same ideas) and we will use these ideas in class on Thursday. If you would like to, you can create a picture or poster, an acrostic poem or rhyme or a slogan to help us during our discussions.

Maths:

Most of you probably haven’t spent much time thinking about your times tables over the summer holidays.  Go over your tables and ask someone (an adult or older brother or sister or a friend) to give you a quick quiz if they have time.

Literacy:

Can you have a look through your books at home and choose one you’d like to take in to school as your ERIC (Everybody Reading In Class) book for the first week or so.  We will have books in class but these will not be able to be taken out of the room for the time being.

Good Morning P7 and welcome back, nearly. We will see you tomorrow and are really looking forward to meeting you and getting to know all of the wonderful things that you are capable of.  In preparation for that we have some tasks for you to complete at home today.

Firstly, we will need to create our Class Charters, to keep up with our Rights Respecting Schools approach.  You don’t have to write anything down for this task but come to school tomorrow with some ideas for each of these areas.  We apply three rules across the school: READY, RESPECTFUL, SAFE but what would that mean in our classrooms specifically? Think of the UN Rights of a child, how we interact with each other and how we can make our class a place for learning.  Try and have 2 or 3 ideas for each area you can share in class as other pupils might come up with the same ideas.

Because you haven’t been in school for a while, your times tables might be a bit rusty!  The times tables are one of the best tools you have in maths and knowing them is one of the biggest helps out there.  Identify 3 of the times tables that you know you need to work on.

This site has lots of games and tips on learning your tables and has them already written out for you.  Write down your 3 choices of tables three times each. Recite them out loud three times each and then ask someone to test you on them.  Don’t worry if you get some wrong, learning the tables takes time and repetition.

Finally, your literacy task is to find a book that you’ll be happy to read at ERIC times for the next two weeks.  It can be a new book or an old favourite of yours, it can be fiction or non-fiction but make sure it will last you this week and next.  Read the first chapter and we’ll ask a few of you to share your books with the class and why you picked it.
